Review: KBC Poker X 40% Keyboard w/ Cherry MX Mechanical Switches

Trying to get some product reviews out of the way. I finally got the KBC Poker X keyboard in that I was looking forward to for a long time. I did a full on review of the unit to both review the keyboard in detail and also give some information on mechanical keyboards and the switch types for people new to mechanical keyboards.

Co-op Gaming in Eyefinity: Saints Row - The Third

Welcome to the next of my video blogs where I look at co-op games and how satisfying the experience is in multi-monitor. I love co-op gaming, but not all co-op games play well in multi-monitor. My reviews cover what I needed to do to get the game working in Eyefinity, any issues that I found in the game that relate to it, and how fun I found the whole experience.

This episode reviews the game Saints Row: The Third.

In case it is helpful, I have provided a text copy of the transcript as well. Enjoy!

More Monitors = More Productive. We Could Have Told You That...

So, Gizmodo picked up this story from the New York Times about a study proving that multi-monitor configurations make users more productive. Really? Is that new news? We could have told you that.

The article cites a study (funded by monitor maker NEC) that says having multiple monitors can save you 10 seconds of toggling between windows, for each five minutes of work. Sum total in a day, this works out to saving 15 minutes - enough for a coffee break. Yay! Too bad they missed the larger point...

Sonic Generations Surround/Eyefinity/Multi-Monitor Feature Video

I have wanted to get this video up for a while. Sonic Generations is a quite fun game and a great example of the capability of the WSGF users/developers to fix a game that otherwise would have never worked.

Was burning the midnight oil when I did this so kind of messed up the camera angle a bit and all that but most importantly the video made it and now its live for you to watch.

4k Eyefinity

Somehow I missed this article about AMD's booth at CES, that showed off an AMD Radeon 7970 hooked up to a 4k monitor. The article outlines that a 4k monitor requires two DP inputs to support the full resolution and bandwidth. This got me thinking...

Let's Play Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - In 50% Eyefinity

If you are looking for an extensive amount of Skyrim gameplay footage I have been personally working on an entire LP series.

You can track the series by viewing it's playlist on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL06A13A2A55387977

Skyrim was little more than just an experiment for me at first but after getting about 7 hours in it has really hooked me and started to develop as a great game. I did a lil' something different with this series in that I never do LP's in eyefinity because the vast amount of my viewership would not be able to see much video on a single monitor, as I was editing the first episode I took notice that Skyrim has nothing to crop off the edges (no HUD, menu, dialog etc) so I cut the 2 side monitors via crop by 50% giving me this new product I call 50% eyefinity that is a great middle ground for both multi-monitor viewers and single screen viewers alike.

It takes a LOT of time & effort to record/edit/encode/upload videos in this resolution but so far I like the results and the game is so much more fun to play in eyefinity than a single monitor.
If you are a multi-monitor viewer take advantage of the ultra high resolution uploads and view in "original" resolution for quality higher than 1080P.

CES 2012 Ruminations

So, we're coming up on three weeks since CES 2012. It wasn't a huge show for gamers, but there were a few standouts. The first couple of days started strong with lots of news and announcements, but this quickly tapered off by the third and fourth days. I guess this is to be expected.

After have a few weeks for it to all sink in (and to get through another video card reviews and the AMD HardOCP event), I thought I'd circle back around and give my spin on all the announcements. Did gamers fare well, or was it all TVs, tablets and new wave washing machines?
