PlanetSide 2 Beta Multi-Monitor Analysis, 2nd September

The game has native support for multi-monitor systems, all the UI is functional and centred, however some elements don't render correctly. For the most part its horizontal plus, there is large exception and that is all vehicle gameplay is vertical minus. The video itself is part analysis, part walkthough and part waffle, my commentary need works I know, need more practice, but feel free to like or dislike my video and comment.

While this video can be watched on any screen it has been encoded to look best on a multi-monitor system, so if your running such a system, then select original quality from the drop down box and watch in fullscreen. Videos are embedded below but they might be better viewed on the web pages.

Ultra High Definition / Super Hi-Vision approved by the UN

It appears that the United Nations has approved a new television standard officially called Ultra High Definition but being branded as Super Hi-Vision, which is 7680x4320 pixels. I wonder if/how this will impact gaming when it becomes the new standard in a mainstream fashion.

The Ramblings of a Moron: Diablo III "Stay awhile and listen..."

Disclaimer

"Ramblings of a Moron" is a review series done by WSGF member Cynagen. While reviews from other sites focus on extensive play and detailed postmortem analysis, "Ramblings of a Moron" is a first impression "stream of consciousness" review. The grammar isn't perfect, and the prose can sometimes be disjointed, but these are the first impressions of a seasoned WSGF Insider. For more information, and for more Ramblings, see the complete list of Cynagen's offerings.

QuakeCon 2012 Recap

Back from QuakeCon! What a great first time. Learned some things for next year and have some things I want to do.

First off, once again, I need to thank the Plantronics GameCom guys for the seats. They gifted Zencyde and I some cool swag, one thing being the Plantronics GameCom 780s, which I will hopefully get around to reviewing soon. Hint: I love them.

Next, a good ol' fashioned howdy to all the people we met at QuakeCon. So, to all of the new visitors, lurkers, old members, and such... "Howdy!"

We had lots of cool things to see and lots of cool people to meet. We actually got to meet and talk with a former member, Drakino. He made one of the first fixers for the WSGF, the Game Resolution Switcher (GRS). Now, he works for Vigil Games making the things we love to play. We also met some lurkers of the forum. Though you don't talk, we still love you. We were able to talk to a lot of people that were interested in multi-monitor gaming. Hopefully, they will stick around, too, and learn as much as they can.

We also got to check out some cool things out now and will be out in the future.

QuakeCon 2012

Howdy from QuakeCon 2012, down in Dallas, TX! Zencyde and I are out here hitting up the LAN. We are checking out some of the booths, and will hopefully get some video of things. I am rocking the WSGF Edition Monitor Stand (borrowing, thanks to Skip!), if anyone at the BYOC wants to check it out. Sadly, I only have one monitor on it, as I needed to get special permission to run a multi-monitor rig before hand (the QC trip was kind of last minute and I did not realize/think that I would need permission...BYOC Noob right here).

Endless Space (Triple Monitors / Eyefinity / Surround) [~4K]

Endless Space is a turn based 4x strategy game from Amplitude Studios. The game has native support for multi-monitor systems, some of the UI is spanned but its all fully functional. For the most part its horizontal plus, there is one exception but it can be fixed fairly easily buy simply setting your resolution lower when starting or loading a game, then increasing it afterwards. The video itself is part analysis, part walkthough and part waffle, my commentary still isn't very good, need more practice, but feel free to like or dislike my video and comment.

"3 Over 1" Eyefinity

Just thought I'd share an update on my never ending quest to find the perfect gaming rig. I've been running a 1+3 Eyefinity rig for a while. I decided to invert this, and flip to a 3+1 config. This allows me to keep my Mac running on the bottom screen, while I have Eyefinity running at top. The "pockets" of space created on my desk now give me more room for speakers (review of the Corsair SP-2500 coming soon) and other items.

I'll let you know how I like it once I've had more time with it. You can see my full command center in this forum post.

Gymkhana 5 Out Now

For those who love the DiRT games and haven't heard, Gymkhana 5 is out now. Set in San Francisco, I would say this is probably one of the best yet.

Gamers: Bunch of Bitchy Little Girls

Note - If you have an issue with my use of the term "bitchy" in this blog, please see my disclaimer at the bottom of the article.

I must admit that I've yet to play the Mass Effect series. Sacrilege I know, but the lack of Eyefinity support, and a backlog of Eyefinity-capable games meant that Mass Effect would simply need to wait. I still followed the development of all three games, and the efforts of the WSGF community to implement proper Eyefinity and Surround support (successful I might add).

Apparently the ending wasn't up to snuff, with reactions ranging from "soul crushing" to incomplete. One common complaint was that for all the myriad of choices available during the series, the final installment basically shoehorned you into one of a few endings. Now, I'm not surprised that gamers may be disappointed with such an ending, but I was surprised at the level of the response - message boards lighting up, online petitions and donation drives. I guess I shouldn't be shocked at anything when the Internet Rage Machine (IRM) starts up.
