Killer App Mod for Tron 2.0 - Hor+ w/ Eyefinity Support

Forum member redrain85 created the Tron 2.0 mod Killer App. The mod provides a whole host of improvements to Tron 2.0, but of particular interest to the WSGF is native Hor+ support and support for Eyefinity.

Check out this discussion thread to see some screenshots and chat with redrain85. Fortunately, it looks like his methodology will also be applicable to other Lithtech 2.5 engine games such as NOLF 1 & 2.

AMD Releases Catalyst 10.4 Driver Update

Overall the 10.4 release did not add significant new features, at least not for Eyefinity users. Specifically, it did not release support for 5x1-Portrait mode. Notable new features are enhancements to the ATI Catalyst video playback and Video Transcoding. It specifically added support for the Windows 7 Drag and Drop video converter in the Catalyst Control Center.

New OpenSearch Plug-in for IE8 & FireFox

Forum member Delphium is at it again. This time he put together a search plug-in so that you can search the WSGF Wiki and phpBB3 forum all at once. To install it, click the link in the left nav.

The plug-in is built on the OpenSearch platform, so it can be installed in both IE8 and FireFox. The plug-in uses Google to perform the search, and returns all relevant pages it has crawled.

New FOV & Aspect Ratio Calculator from Delphium

Forum member Delphium put together a new FOV Calculator that is simply amazing. Beyond just calculating FOV, it also calculates Aspect Ratio, Eyefinity/Surround Aspect Ratio, total pixels, video bitrate and video bandwidth.

It also has a graphical representation of the aspect ratio using a Hor+ image from L4D2. By entering in your number of monitors, it will also add in the bezels to simulate an Eyefinity setup. Pretty amazing, and thanks again to Delphium for all of his hard work.

AMD Releases Catalyst 10.2 Driver Update

AMD has released the the AMD Catalyst 10.2 update. Below are the updates relevant to Eyefinity gamers:

CrossFireX & Eyefinity Support - Previous CrossFireX support in Eyefinity was a "White List" where only specifically enabled titles were supported. The new driver support moves to a "Black List" support model. This means that games are supported by default, unless there is a particular issue or barrier to a title. This title would be placed on the "Black List" indicating that it was not supported. Further optimization can be made through the Application Profiles.

ATI Partners Announce HD 5970 4GB at Cebit

At Cebit this week vendors are starting to announce the release of 4GB versions of the Radeon HD 5970. The original HD 5970 was the first "CrossFireX on a single card" board released in the 5000-series line. It was essentially two HD 5870s in one package, with each GPU only having 1GB of VRAM.

ATI Announces Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity6

ATI announced the long awaited Eyefinity6. By and large the technical specs are the same. The differences are the 2GB of RAM, the six Mini-DP outputs and power consumption. Power has increased from the HD 5870 (188W/27W) to Max 228W and Idle 34W. The box also comes with an array of adapters from Mini-DP to other display types. This thread has started on the subject, and includes a couple of slides from the ATI Press Deck about the release.
