AMD Bulldozer FX CPUs dated: October 12th.

PC Perspective have gotten leaks from Microcenter regarding the long awaited release of Bulldozer. The Bulldozer is said to be launched under the good, old FX brand, which was top of the line CPU for gaming in its old days. October 12th is the date to mark your calenders. According to the article on PC Perspective, it would be wise to update your bios if you have an AM3+ motherboard and plan to upgrade your CPU.

AMD Releases Catalyst 11.9 Driver Update

AMD has released the Catalyst 11.9 Driver update with the following key features:

  • Enables AMD HD 3D technology support on DisplayPort panels, such as the Samsung 750 and 950 series 3D displays.
  • Fixed various forms of hanging in the following titles: COD - Black Ops, F1 2010, Dungeon Siege 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Borderlands, Dead Rising 2, Serious Sam 2, Resident Evil 5, HAWX 2
  • Fixed CrossFire scaling for EarthSim 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Metro 2033 and HAWX

Rusty Hearts Triple Monitors ~4K Video

A new ~4K videos is up, Rusty Heart Online Multiplayer Hack and Slash Roll Play Game, it natively supports multi monitor resolutions but HUD elements are pinned to the side of the screens. Once again if your monitors width is larger than 1920 pixels and you have lots of bandwidth, set the quality to original and play the video in full screen for a much higher quality. The game is free to play on Steam or via direct download from their website.

AMD Releases Catalyst 11.10 Preview Driver (aka "Battlefield 3 Driver")

AMD has just posted a preview of the Catalyst 11.10 driver. It provides improvements to Battlefield 3 performance, as well as inclusion of 5x1 Eyefinity support into a release driver branch. Highlights include:

  • Improves performance in Battlefield 3 Open Beta release for both non-Anti-Aliasing, and application enabled Anti-Aliasing cases on the AMD Radeon™ HD 6000 and AMD Radeon™ HD 5000 Series for single GPU configurations

Nvidia Releases GeForce 285.38 Beta Driver (Battlefield 3 beta driver)

New in Release 285.38

Increases performance in Battlefield 3 by up to 38%i.
Improves overall stability and image quality in Battlefield 3.
Added or updated SLI profiles for Battlefield 3, Dead Island, Diablo III, Dragon Age 2, Need for Speed: The Run, and Saints Row: The Third.
Fixed a performance regression in 285.27 beta running Crysis 2 (DirectX 9).

FPS limiter has been added to a future Nvidia driver

According to ManuelG (from Nvidia's techincal support over at nvidia forums) in a response to thread "FPS limiter included in the driver petition":

Battlefield: Bad Company™ 2 Update Released today with fixes for multi-monitor users

According to my Steam account, there is an update today with fixes especially aimed for multi-monitor users. Hopefully this fixes some of the problem our users have had:

Battlefield: Bad Company™ 2 Update Released

- Removed some memory leaks
- Fixed crashes when the game attempted to render lots of content (high detail, high FOV or multiple-monitor modes); this should particularly help multi-monitor users
- Chat window no longer causes lag spikes
- Chat window reworked opacity & visibility-time is controllable through settings in settings.ini

HEX Editing Tutorial Updated

I found this great forum post from Tanuki that outlined all of the common HEX values for resolutions and aspect ratios. I've added it to our existing HEX Editing Tutorial. This information should be immensely helpful for people working to find Eyefinity and Surround solutions, when "simple" fixes such as .ini and Registry tweaks fail.

WSGF Cafe Press Store Relaunch

Over the weekend we re-launched the WSGF Cafe Press Store with a host of designs from AussieTimmeh. All of the designs are available on t-shirts, coffee mugs, glasses and other beverage containers. The design categories feature the WSGF logo and the site "definition, the WSGF logo and an array of flags that represent our international community, and the merging of the WSGF logo and Air Force logos from around the world. We're hoping this last set will be of particular interest to flight sim fans, as well as current and ex-military from around the world.
