AMD Omega Driver - What Matters to Gamers

Over the past day or two you've probably seen the announcement of AMD's Catalyst "Omega" driver. I've been digging through the details in the press deck, and I've reached out ot AMD with a few clarifying questions. This article outlines the features that I think will be of most interest to gamers. Lots of really good updates in this driver release, and a number of new feature releases, which will only improve with time. AMD has put together a huge update, and gamers should be excited about the new features, the performance improvements and a renewed interest to squash bugs and make installs easier.

One huge new feature is PLP support, which will begin with the R9 285. Does this mock-up interest anyone? Click through for details.

The Crew (Triple Monitors / Eyefinity / Surround) [~4K]

The Crew is a co-op focused, sudo MMO, racing game from Ivory Towers, the game is designed around the idea of teaming up with 1-3 of your friends in a crew and to race, chase and cruise together, however it can be played solo, you still need to be connected to the world though. The games multi-monitor support is very good, it's horizontal plus and runs at 5040x1050 by default. The UI is centred, all the options and HUD elements work, there is a small mouse position issue with the map but nothing that effects he game play.

The video itself is part analysis, part walkthough and part waffle, feel free to like or dislike my video and comment are always welcome too.

While this video can be watched on any screen it has been encoded to look best on a multi-monitor system, so if your running such a system, then select 4K quality from the drop down box and watch in fullscreen.

The game will feature the team and driver line-ups from the 2014 season, as well as the Red Bull Ring and the brand-new Sochi Autodrom.

It was reported in August 2014 that the game will allow players to choose any team to drive for in Career Mode, rather than making the player start at a team lower down the grid and work their way up, as in other titles.

Couple of Reviews: Club 3D MST Hubs & Corsair H80i w/ SP120 Quiet Fans

Recently posted a couple of quick product review videos on YouTube. The first is the 2nd Generation MST Hubs from Club 3D. We build upon our review of the first generation, and look particularly at the 4x1 DisplayPort MST Hub. It works great with 3x1080p in Eyefinity, plus a 21:9 1080p as a 4th monitor. Looking at DP bandwidth usage, we confirm it is also possible to run 3x 21:9 1080p on both the 3x1 and 4x1 units.

The review of the Corsair H80i is tested while cooling an AMD FX-9590, which is a 220W TDP chip. We look at the fan speed, cooling power (measuring CPU temp) and the sound profile (db SPL and spectrum analyzer of each "mode" - Quiet, Balance and Performance. We also look at the same three aspects with the SP120 Quiet fans installed.
