Read Full Detailed Report - Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 3 is a Role-playing Game (RPG) / Third-Person Shooter hybrid set in a Science Fiction universe. Mass Effect 3 is the third game in the popular Mass Effect series, and is rumored to be the final installment. In it players continue the adventures of Commander Shepard utilizing extreme character customization which is the hallmark feature of the series. Additional features include: the ability to import decisions from both of the previous games into the new game, ownership/play of previous games not required, customizable weapons, improved mobility and melee combat, many returning characters (if they were not killed off in previous imported games), an improved cover system that allows for more action and more.

Join Commander Shepard in the struggle against the Reapers in the conclusion to the Mass Effect trilogy.

Not everyone will survive. An ancient alien race, known only as "Reapers," has launched an all-out invasion leaving nothing but a trail of destruction in their wake. Earth has been taken, the galaxy is on the verge of total annihilation, and you are the only one who can stop them. The price of failure is extinction. You are Commander Shepard, a character that you can forge in your own image. You determine how events will play out, which planets to explore, and whom to form alliances with as you rally a force to eliminate the Reaper threat once and for all. How you wage this war is completely up to you: go into combat with guns blazing or use cover to plan a more tactical assault. Utilize your squad to full effect or take a lone wolf approach. Rain death from a distance or go toe-to-toe with enemies using devastating melee attacks. Mass Effect 3 will react to each decision you make as you play through a truly unique experience of your own creation.

I know the menu disapears on boot up, however I noticed while playing the weapons modification station is also not working properly. Just FYI.

The game works great, all menus and everything without any kind of hack/mod. The only problem is that the framerate sucks! Feels like I'm barely getting 15 FPS just walking around the Normandy. Sure, my system isn't that super high-spec, but I feel like it should run better than this. It flies when running on a single monitor, with all the graphics settings maxed.

Seems to be working pretty good for me, Menu's all seem to be intact. Im running the game with no vsync hack and im getting fairly decent frames per second. 90-100 fps @ 6028x1080

Just wondering what FOV most people are using, im currently on 85* and it seems to be ok. Any higher and it gives me a headace.

You might find that it's dropping just below 60 fps in multi monitor mode and is vsyncing it to 30fps instead.

Open up DocumentsBioWareMass Effect 3BIOGameConfigGamerSettings.ini
Then add this line to the bottom of the [SystemSettings] section: UseVsync=False

It will still cap your fps at 62, although it wont artificially slow it down to 30. If you want to remove the fps cap altogether then add this line below the UseVsync line with whatever number you want the max fps to be: MaxSmoothedFrameRate=300

I'd leave the FPS smoothing where it's at unless you can maintain a higher FPS consistently. The FPS smoothing in UE3 is gorgeous and works wonders. Just disable vsync and leave FPS smoothing on.

Hey Lolotov,

Is it possible to have two grades assigned to the game for multi-monitor?

I ask as Eyefinity users have few if any issues at default with ME3...whereas Nvidia Surround users are very broken unless using a patch like Helifax's. I can understand assigning a "C" on the basis of Nvidia, but ME3 for Eyefinity has fewer annoyances/bugs than games like Fallout3 or FO:NV...and those games got silver medals (B). The only thing I and others see as broken on ME3 is that the HUD elements are not centered, but the are still completely visible and usable. All other menus look fine and are scaled/placed properly.

I see "C" and think "aw crap this probably won't work", whereas for Eyefinity users the game works fine....so long as you don't go futzing back and forth between bezel compensated and non-compensated resolutions and forget to change things back.

No for a few reasons. Firstly, with automatic grading, you can't do this. We are not looking to split the grading for each multi-mon type because there are very few games in this situation for what works out to be alot of overhead. Secondly, if the game is flawed for Multi-Monitor, it gets scored accordingly. It's no different to a game that supports 16:9 but not 16:10 - it affects some people but not others, but overall it is flawed. You have to read the DR to find out what the issue is. If you're an Eyefinity user, you read the DR and find out you're ok, then so be it.

The grade is for Multi-Monitor in general, and we don't reward it for being good on one type of multi-mon setup but excluding others.

Then could we have the detailed report edited to the effect that Eyefinity is fine, and only Nvidia Surround is borked at default and requires any sort of patch to be usable?

The way the report is now, it reads like all multi-monitor users need a patch to get it usable.

Does anyone know what atiags.dll does? Its in the BinariesWin32 folder. With it there the game wont launch (no error, just instant background crash).
Problem is that Eyefinity doesnt work for me (every menu zoomed 500%) and Im wondering if the lack of this ATI file is causing it.

EDIT: Ok, that is the problem! ATIAGS lets the game know if the system is running Eyefinity!

Now to find out why its not working.

Just got this today, was having some fun with friends in multiplayer. It is really the only mode I intend to play for now so I wanted to know if anybody has used the multi-monitor fixer on multiplayer and not had issues (mainly detected as a cheat/hack)

I used to play ME3 with 2xHD5850 graphic cards and Eyefinity @ 3x1@ 5760x1080 pixels. It worked really good, no FPS issues, stutterign whatsoever...I decided it is time to upgrade my system and bought a new HD7950 to replace my crossfire system. (in time when prices drop there will be a 2nd one). But now, ME3 seems not fluid when gaming. The 7950 should have more than enough capacity to handle ME3, also the fact that while gaming ME3 the GPU Load never rises above 40% is suspicious . Same Evefinity setup as above mentioned, of course.

Also I was not able to observe similiar effects in other games (Deus ex 3, Skyrim, Sleeping Dogs, SWTOR so far).

Any ideas? or just sit and wait for a better driver? At the mom cat 12.8 installed.

DR & this thread are dated. Use Flawless Widescreen instead, works perfect. Also spreads Manual PLP perfect, with a few LUA edits.

Just wanna say THANK YOU To HELIFAX for creating the ultra-sweet WS Fixer plugin for this game!

For the last 2 years i have used both WSF and FWS at the same time, when apparently all i really needed was WSF! Yes it is very important to activate the WSF plugin during the EA opening cinematic, which i am doing now and it works wonders, my only remaining issue is that in multiplayer i cant get the weapon zoom to function properly. ANY THOUGHTS?

Basically i have to deactivate the plugin after the MP mission starts, then make damn sure i reactivate it before the mission ends or i wont be able to exit the post-mission stats screen due to overscan issues... This isn't too much of an issue but i was wondering if there was a work-around?

ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK MASTER H! YOU HAVE MADE SO MANY OF MY FAVOURITE GAMES ULTRA WS & SOFT-TH COMPATIBLE!

Attached image is a screenshot from my ME3 Multiplayer game rendered with SoftTH, at 3648 x 1152 @60hz... I'm getting around 110 fps with some tearing and V sync off.

UPDATE:
I have used FWS and WSF each alone with the game, and there are some small drawbacks for each... With FWS u get to change FOV in game with a preset, yet the HUD Crosshair for me is slightly off, the bullets hit just above the crosshair, my config is: 3648 x 1152, with a W/H setup of 1920 x 1080, with HUD-X at 852, and HUD-Y at 0... Any ideas? Everything is perfectly centered except that the crosshair is too low. I have experimented with different coordinates but still nothing. And with WSF the crosshair is dead on, but i can't ZOOM properly...

blubberduck86, I would try adjusting your FWS resolution override values like this:

Width: 3648
Height: 1152
Hud Width: 2048 (16:9 fake center)
Hud Height: 1152 (16:9 fake center)
Horizontal Display Count: 3 (fake sides)
Vertical Display Count: 1
Hud X: 800 (which is 3648 minus 2048, then divided by 2 = width of fake side)
Hud Y: 0

It seems feasible this would correct your crosshair. Failing that, could also try shutting off FWS resolution override, & doing LUA edits instead (read my linked instructions in previous post). I would pretend you are using PLP during these LUA edits (fake sides, to make proper HUD etc on center).

10-18-2015 UPDATE:
Hey man thanks for the coordinates they work perfect!!!
The only remaining issue is that i cant see my squadmates powers/weapons "in game" as my center display is shorter than my side displays, my side portrait displays are 1152 pixels in height, the center landscape display is 1080 pixels in height... So that was why i originally wanted to use 1920 x 1080 for my HUD, but now i realize that because my total combined resolution is 3648 x 1152 i have to set a coordinate for the center of the HUD (i.e: where the crosshair and gunshots would center...), I don't know if its possible. These screenshots are taken in game after applying your coordinates for Flawless Widescreen...

So basically i really wanna use 1080 for the HUD height, width is not as important, any further suggestions bud? Like i said, the way it is now is adequate, yet every time i go on a mission i will have to switch the res to 1080p to set the squadmates powers and quick-keys as i cannot see them; too far down on screen as the HUD is set to match 1152 pixels in height... see screenshots!

I KNOW IT LOOKS LIKE I HAVE FULL ACCESS TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CENTER SCREEN BUT TRUST ME I CAN'T EVEN SEE IT!
The issue is that my center display is 1 inch (physically) shorter than my portrait side displays... So even though it is rendered in game, i can't see the squadmates powers/weapons with the current display override which is perfectly centered for both HUD and shots fired in-game... Either way THANK YOU for the coordinates bud that was awesome!
My ultimate goal is to have a HUD of 1920 x 1080, but still be able to use a centered crosshair/bullet hit zone for the game rendering of 3648 x 1152...

File comment: THIS IS WHAT I REALLY WANT! Too bad the bullets dont hit the crosshair, this was my old setup...

Sorry missed the post.
I recommend your game-height be the height of your center, not your sides. Create a perfect visual bar of game across all screens, with black margin on side-bottoms.
If you want your game to look bigger, move closer to your screens. If you can't, change your desk/mount. Big payoff.

I'm trying to get Flawless widescreen to work, but it has no effect while it is running.

I can click Enable/disable and absolutely nothing happens in Mass Effect.

What am I doing wrong?

What does the FWS Status Window say once you boot up your game? This can hint at the problem.

Gel214th, have you tried this?
In FWS, go to menu Settings, Configuration, Display Detection. Checkmark Enable Detection Override.
Then fill in your details for "fake PLP" (below numbers are for a 2560x1080 screen, which I think you have).

Width: 2560
Height: 1080
Hud Width: 1920 (16:9 fake center)
Hud Height: 1080 (16:9 fake center)
Horizontal Display Count: 3 (fake sides)
Vertical Display Count: 1
Hud X: 320 (which is 2560 minus 1920, then divided by 2 = width of fake side)
Hud Y: 0

This worked PERFECTLY!! I activated in-game using the FWS hotkey, and then selected 2560 x 1080 from the graphics options menu. And it worked! I have no idea why, or what forcing the settings meant....but it worked :)
And it was perfect. The menus, squad screens etc. were fine.

Thanks so much!

HELP!
Everything goes off screen when I engage the memory hack with both WSF and FWS!
I'm not using Soft TH, just Nvidia surround at 3840 x 1080 with 2 1080p monitors in landscape mode...
UPDATE:
OK so now I got FWS to work *I can actually see the game now, but the only remaining issue is the HUD is not centered, it's off to the right too much... should I set the HUD Y placement to 1080? or maybe 2160?

OK fixed it!
I had to divide 1925 by 2 for the HUD x placement, so basically my Nvidia Surround is outputting at 3850 x 1080 (bezel corrected) essentially as one display so I manually entered this into the FWS display config, using a horizontal display count of 1 and a vertical count of 0m, and for the HUD I used 1925 x 1080, and the X placement at 963, Y placement at 0. See attached image!
I LOVE THIS STUFF! :rockout:

Thanks again Hayden for being awesome!

I need some help... I can't get ME3 to work correctly. The top and bottom always get cut off with Flawless Widescreen. If I set the display to 2560x1440 ingame everything is fine. But as soon as I use 3440x1440 (which is the same height) the top and bottom get cut off.

Looks like this:
Image

Edit: Apparently I have a solution now so that I get 2560x1440 scaled correctly in the menu and ingame it widens to 3440x1440. Works fine now - as far as it is possible with this game. Hunter Mode on the Geth looks funny, or scoping in with a Black Widow :lolno:

Because I got asked in a PM what I did to fix it I will post this here as well. Basically I did what imusrt (THANK YOU!) suggested on the previous page but I edited the parameters for my screen size:

- In Flawless Widescreen go to menu "Settings" and then "Configuration" and then "Display Detection"
- Checkmark "Enable Detection Override"
- Then fill in the details below if you have a 3440x1440 screen

Width: 3440
Height: 1440
Hud Width: 2560 (16:9 fake center)
Hud Height: 1440 (16:9 fake center)
Horizontal Display Count: 3 (fake sides)
Vertical Display Count: 1
Hud X: 440 (which is 3440 minus 2560, then divided by 2 = width of fake side)
Hud Y: 0

Note: I was irritated at first because the start screen was 2560x1440 with black bars on each side. Once I opened a lobby and started a match the black bar disappeared and I had a nice 3440x1440 picture. Haven't tested singleplay, but should be the same I guess. Not sure if this is mandatory or not: the ME3 display options I have the resolution set to 3440x1440 and windowed borderless.

Has anyone tried editing the HEX in the .exe file to get the cutscenes to present in 21:9?

I tried editing the .exe like is done in the Witcher 3 .exe (explained here: http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.ph ... 43#p160343) but it hasn't worked.

If you use Widescreen Fixer instead of Flawless Widescreen the cutscenes are not pillarboxed

I can't get Widescreen Fixer to work. It increases the FOV but I can't click on anything in the main menu. edit: Scrap that. This time it worked. But the UI is cropped at the top and bottom.

Seem it's been a known problem for over a year. Found this thread: http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.ph ... 44#p168044

posted the issue there. I guess I'll just use FWS and watch pillarboxed cutscenes :(

Hi,

I have the exact same problem on a 3440x1440p monitor. I can't get flawless widescreen to work correctly on this game, it doesn't seem to do anything at all.

I already tried to enable dectection override options and the hotkey enable during the intro.

Widescreen Fixer doesn't work either. It crash as soon as I launch the game.

I'm using the Mass Effect™ 3 Édition numérique de luxe N7 Origin version.

I never had trouble with Flawless widescreen on steam's games before, not sure if Origin could be causing the issue ?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have been looking for a fix for days... nothing seems to work. It's like something is blocking flawless widescreen from doing his work.

Flawless Widescreen Tool works for me. https://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/
But I've used it all weekend without problem to fix FOV issues on standard 16:9.
So it detects and hooks to the game exe. So it should work for Aspect Ratio to.
Follow the descriptions, activating fix, relading save etx. And setup your screen config in the tool correctly.

Side note:
I ran the game in dsr 7680×4320 resolution 8K on a 43" 4K monitor, with HD Textures Mod, Interface Scaling MOD and SweetFX mods... it looks amazing! :D
Also had to do a re-run now before the new one releases, had missed a couple of the DLC years ago, so made a new run.

Well, I can only tell you that I'm running the game in Origin and use the settings in FWS I posted and it works for me like described. I'm sorry if I can't be more helpful. It sounds like you said: if nothing changes at all it seems like FWS isn't doing anything for some reason in your case...

here's how I got it to work ultra wide, first I used flawless widescreen, in game settings I changed the resolution to windowed mode after I did this if you go back to the resolution setting you should see 3440 1440 if you switch to windows board less change the setting now it should fit the screen. Now if you want the cut scene to work close flawless widescreen and use widescreen fixer. This should work any time in game. If this is old news sorry.

Problem :
For an unknow reason, French players can't run the game and make Flawlesswidescreen to work. If the game is in Full French (voice and text), Flawlesswidescreen will not recognise the game and still block at this status :

"Searching for Mass Effect 3 process, please configure desired settings and launch the game."

Solution :
For French players, here are the trick to make Flawlesswidescreen working and have French voice (you have to do this everytime you launch the game...) :

Explanation in French :
Explication en Français ici : http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/JeuxVideo/PC/effect-ultrawidescreen-francais-sujet_193680_1.htm#t13061384

Explanation in English :
1 : Go to Windows, type Regedit, and find : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\BioWare\Mass Effect 3
2 : In the lign "Locale" modify "fr_Fr" in "en_US" (without quote). Keep this window open. We are going back to it later.
3 : Open flawlesswidescreen and configure it like you want or like this guy https://youtu.be/HMiYtAWSmqY?t=424.
4 : Run the game throught Origin. Flawlesswidescreen will recognize it because the game is in English now.
5 : Come back to the desktop without closing your game (press "Alt Tab" keys on your keyboard for exemple).
6 : Modify the value "Locale" to fr_FR in the Registry Editor.
7 : Come back to the game, go to Narrative option, and select Français in voice option.

Enjoy a full French game with Flawlesswidescreen enable !

Hello!

This is my first post on this site ever. I have a question about the Fine FOV adjusment setting in the Flawless widescreen app. It goes from -1,00 to +1,00. How to understand this? I like to play between 90-100 FOV. Which number will correspond to lets say FOV=90?

I've forgotten how to get rid of the 16:9 cutscenes or "black bars" from the cutscenes!

I was playing over a year ago with the cutscenes fixed for 21:9. Since then I've done a clean install on my PC and now that I've reinstalled ME3 I've forgotten how to fix it!!! I can't even remember where I found the fix. I remember it involved editing files, maybe hex editing...

Can someone please point me in the right direction please.

UPDATE: Worked out what I did!

Widescreen Fixer will do the job if you tweak the settings (the COG icon) accordingly...

Under "Enter Resolutions for HUD Placement"
Automatically Detect Resolution: (Uncheck)
Display Count: 3
Uncorrected Resolution: 6880 & 1440
Bezel-Corrected Resolution: 3440 & 1440

And FOV I just set to 10.6

21:9 gameplay, cutscenes and no cropped GUI. Have fun.

I have a problem were my character when zoomed in is between both monitors on the left side of my triple monitor setup, its very very annoying. My FOV is btw very very high around 115-120 and hurts the hell out of my eyes any ideas? im currently using Flawless and Widescreen fixer just to say.

i downloaded flawless widescreen, however, the resolution of my ME3 was not changed, it remained at 1920x1080. i had to use GeForce Nvidia experience to manually adjust the game to 2560x1080. however, the downside of that is all the game play menus are outside of the screen. for example, when there is a reputation choice, i cannot see which mouse button i need to click. i went online and find out that paragon is right mouse button and renegade is left mouse button. what am i doing wrong?

I'm using Flawless Widescreen especially for the FOV-fix, and I want to try another than my native resolution (1920x1080 16:9). But every time I set ingame-resolution to 3840x2160 the HUD/UI is still getting way too small. I've also tested many settings-combinations in FWS under "Override Display Detection" cause the auto-detection does nothing as mentioned before. In other words: which override-settings are recommended for a "working" HUD/UI for a resolution of 3840x2160 on a native 1920x1080 16:9 monitor?

I need some help.

I use flawless widescreen for ME1 & ME2 (works flawlessly ;)

For ME3 I am trying to get Widescreen Fixer to work because Flawless does not work for menus/cutscenes.
Widescreen Fixer works, but in the main menu I notice that tge Nass Effect logo is cut off at top of monitor and its obvious that something is wrong.

Widescreen Fixer has manual settings like Uncorrected Display etc, I have no idea what to put in these, and the FOV slider I really dont know what to set that at, I have both uncorrected and bezel set at 3440x1440, Display count is at default (3).

Any advice on how to fix my issue or what to do for the settings in widescreen fixer. It would be greatly appreciated.

My display is 3440x1400@100hz w/ an Acer Predator x34.

Thank you.

with these settings the mass effect logo on the main menu is still cut off and obviously the screen is zoomed/out of whack. Is uncorrected resolution supposed to be exactly double the horizontal resolution of your actual monitor, and if so why?

Could really use some advice,

Flawless Widescreen does not work for cutscenes,
Widescreen Fixer causes so many problems, for example after enabling in game, the main menu becomes like a tiny window within a window version of the game. Also in cutscenes with Widescreen Fixer enabled w/ the aforementioned settings, characters walk into/through walls. Devices/items in the characters hands are way off and look to be floating while the character looks to be carrying something that is not there, etc.

I have completely wiped the game, all traces of settings etc and registry cleaning, as well as wiping the tools and acquiring everything fresh. The same issue occurs.

Anyone have any suggestions on this?

Thank you.

Skoda Zek I am having the same exact problem. Were you ever able to fix this? It has completely ruined the game!
