Guild Wars 2 Coming 2012 & Open Beta Soon!

According to the official Arena.net blog, Mike O'Brien states that they have definite plans to release GW2 in the year of 2012.

Also they have just closed an open beta session, and will be starting a second closed beta in February that invites press members (I hope that means me!) after that they have plans to vastly expand the beta invites in the months of March & April to include public access.

I for one am very excited with the news and can't wait to get my hands (and monitors) on Guild Wars 2.

WSGF to Join Anti-SOPA Online Protest w/ Site Blackout

The WSGF will be joining a growing community of websites that will be blacking themselves out in protest of the pending SOPA legislation. Beginning 8am MST on January 18th, the WSGF will be unavailable. The community generated content of the WSGF is a prime target of SOPA, and thus could be a target for censoring. We hope this 24 hour period will show what it will be like if the community-oriented sites on the Internet were under constant threat of government and industry censorship - they would cease to thrive and provide their invaluable services.

Dirt 3 - Eyefinity/Surround/Multi-Monitor Feature Video

Here is my evaluation of Dirt 3 for multi-monitor support.

Surround feature videos talk about any flaws the game has in multi monitor mode, the level of support provided, any hacks needed to manually force support, and also talks about the benefits and joy of playing in surround.

I will be in the AMD booth displaying a couple of WSGF Edition Stands, in both 1+3 and 5x1 configurations. I'll be answering questions with Shane Partfitt (Eyefinity Product Manager) and we'll be presenting in the breakout room from 2:00 - 2:20.

CES 2012 - Jan 9th Gaming News

Last year was a pretty good year for gamers. We got a look at the Razer Switchblade Prototype, Vizio announced its 3D 21:9 Cinemawide HDTVs, AMD launched the APU with the well received HP dm1z, and there were more new panels and notebooks than you could shake a stick at. Two years ago at CES 2010, Dell launched their first 27" panel - the U2711.

Since then the Switchblade has morphed into the Razer Blade (and the same technology showed up in their SW:TOR keyboard), the Vizio Cinemawide missed its anticipated fall 2011 launch, APUs continue to turn up everwhere, and HP has released its own 27" - the ZR2740w (it's actually an LED backed IPS monitor, and undercuts Dell's price by almost $300).

So, what will CES 2012 bring gamers? I'm hoping for an 27" LED IPS panel from Dell to heat up the price wars at the top end, and I really want the 21:9 Cinemawide to launch. It would also be nice to see some of the magic from the Razer products filter down into more affordable gear. And, there's always more panels than you can shake a stick at. So, here I'm collecting the announcements that I think will appear to the folks here at the WSGF.
