New Hardware Arrivals at the WSGF - Video Cards, MST Hubs & Oculus DK2

Check out this quick overview of new hardware we've recently received at the WSGF. We're going to start a new game performance analysis series - diving into how different GPUs perform in Eyefinity, 21:9 ultra-widescreen and 4k UHD. Let us know what games you'd like us to test first.

Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason

Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason is a psychological horror video game developed by Action Forms for Microsoft Windows.

The game story develops with help of a unique system called Mental Echo - the ability to penetrate another character's memory and change the actions taken by that character in the past. This can involve saving people's lives by taking over their bodies in their memories and changing the course of history.[1]

The game, being set in an arctic setting, employs body heat as a health meter - the player must use heat sources (such as lights or stoves) to replenish health.

Gaming CPU Shoot-Out Redux: Multi-GPU Scaling

Late last year I performed a massive 10-Way CPU Shootout. It looked at 10 different CPUs, each tested with three different GPUs. Each configuration was tested in 1080p HD and Eyefinity, across three games. Sum total it was 180 different tests. The AMD FX-9590 was released into retail this past summer - available with and without a custom closed loop liquid cooler from Cooler Master. Given the now wide scale retail availability of both the FX-9370 and the FX-9590, it seemed like a good time to put the finishing touches on a new article.

So, we'll revisit the original premise, but with updated hardware. Is a higher end CPU needed to unlock the power of an R9 290, or the power of a CrossFire configuration? Or, is money still better saved on a CPU to upgrade video cards or purchase an SSD (which are cheaper than ever)? As before we'll start the review with a look at raw CPU power, and compare that to processor prices. Since their original launch, the AMD FX-9370 and FX-9590 have dropped significantly in price. Does that matter, or make the price issues moot?

The previous project was weeks in the testing. For this redux I tested each of the five processors across three games, each of those across seven GPU configuration, in both 1080p HD and Eyefinity 3x 1080p HD. This results in a ton of tests - 210 to be exact (5 x 3 x 7 x 2). Thirty more tests than the first article. Click for the details...

ArcheAge (Triple Monitors / Eyefinity / Surround) [~4K]

ArcheAge is a free to play massively multiplayer online role play game, being published in the west by Trion, in terms of setting and core combat it's a fairly standard hotkey mmorpg, however what sets it apart is the mix of other features in the game that gives it a bit more of a sandbox feel then just a combat grind to level 50. The games multi-monitor support is very good, resolution options are available and the game is horizontal plus be default, most of the fixed location UI is centred however there is some that is spanned, and a good portion of the HUD can also be moved around to suit your own preferences.

The video itself is part analysis, part walkthough and part waffle, feel free to like or dislike my video and comment are always welcome too.

While this video can be watched on any screen it has been encoded to look best on a multi-monitor system, so if your running such a system, then select 4K quality from the drop down box and watch in fullscreen.

The Crew Beta: Coast to Coast Cruise (Triple Monitors / Eyefinity / Surround) [~4K]

So last night (unoriginal, although I did plan on doing this during the first beta when it would of been original but the SLI bug stopped me) anyway, last night I took a cruise across the Mini USA. From the easterly most point on the map to the point on the west coast that was the furthest away from it. The journey was 88 Miles or about 142 KM, it took me around 44 minutes from pulling away from the east coast to parking on the west, with an average speed of 120 MPH, or 193KPH.

Video below was recorded from a resolution of 5040x1050, and processed down to a resolution of 4032x840. If you have a triple monitor setup yourself, set the quality to 4K (assuming your network can handle it) and fullscreen for the best viewing quality, if your running a single monitor, best to watch at 1080p, ether in fullscreen or on YouTube in Cinema mode. Otherwise I hope you like my selection of OC Remix music, track list is below the video.
