Announcing the WSGF Edition Multi-Monitor Stand

I am pleased to announce the WSGF Edition of the Ergotech Heavy Duty Multi-Monitor Stand. The stand is based off existing heavy duty stand that I reviewed here on the WSGF. It is designed to convert from a three monitor (3x1L or 3x1-P), to a four (1+ 3x1-L) or five monitor (5x1-P) setup. The WSGF Edition offers several changes and upgrades, including:

  • Integrated power distribution and surge protection for up to four monitors.
  • Curved, five-segment monitor bar that allows for a truly parabolic curve in 3x1-P and 5x1-P. It also provides a smaller footprint for 3x1-L configurations.
  • Tall pole to accommodate "one over three" monitor configuration.
  • Two additional monitor pivots (for a total of five) for four and five monitor configurations.
  • In a "one over three" configuration the top monitor tilts down for easier viewing.

Below is a video I put together about the development and prototyping process I went through to arrive at the final design. The stand will be available exclusively through the Widescreen Gaming Forum, and I expect to have it available before Thanksgiving.

HEX Editing Tutorial Updated

I found this great forum post from Tanuki that outlined all of the common HEX values for resolutions and aspect ratios. I've added it to our existing HEX Editing Tutorial. This information should be immensely helpful for people working to find Eyefinity and Surround solutions, when "simple" fixes such as .ini and Registry tweaks fail.

WSGF Cafe Press Store Relaunch

Over the weekend we re-launched the WSGF Cafe Press Store with a host of designs from AussieTimmeh. All of the designs are available on t-shirts, coffee mugs, glasses and other beverage containers. The design categories feature the WSGF logo and the site "definition, the WSGF logo and an array of flags that represent our international community, and the merging of the WSGF logo and Air Force logos from around the world. We're hoping this last set will be of particular interest to flight sim fans, as well as current and ex-military from around the world.

Hit up the "store" link in the top nav, which showcases all of the designs on t-shirts. There is a link to the full store at the bottom of that page. Additionally you can find the full store link here - http://www.cafepress.com/wsgf

Guild Wars Guild Relaunch

Based on the results of our recent poll regarding a WSGF MMO Guild, we are relaunching the Guild Wars Guild. Hopefully folks will jump in with the first game, so that we can get some play time in before Guild Wars 2 launches. We will also look into setting up a private WSGF Guild Wars 2 PVP server, when the sequel launches.

Guild Wars 2 Will Allow Private PVP Servers

It was announced this week that ArenaNet will be allowing private PVP server for Guild Wars 2. This is a ground-breaking move from the company that introduced the first free-to-play to North American audiences. I will be looking to host a GW2 PVP server here at the WSGF when the game launches.

We raised $1437.50 for DelPHiuM

Thanks to everyone who donated in our donation drive for DelPHiuM. The ChipIn widget clocked in at $615.50, plus there is a $70 eCheck waiting to clear PayPal. This puts our total at $687.50, more than 2/3 of the way to our goal of $1000. The goal was lofty, and I knew that from the beginning.

Eyefinity/Surround Support Confirmed in Battlefield 3 Alpha

A few forum members have been a part of the BF3 Alpha testing. They have confirmed that multi-monitor is natively supported, and appears to be Hor+. From one screenshot we can see that while the HUD is not centered, but the elements are not stretched.

Centered HUD Fix for Quake 4 by thelolotov

thelolotov has been working on adjusting the Quake 4 HUD for multi-monitor. According to his forum post the tweak is by no means finished, but it's usable. In theory, the HUD, and menus, and all 2D elements can be adjusted to be centered in Triplehead, but this is much easier said than done.

The nice thing is, this mod, while specific to Quake 4, can be easily done with any other id Tech 4-based game, such as Doom 3, Prey, and possibly even Brink, in fact, Brink might be an incredibly easy fix, but as he does not own it, he can't try. Hit the forum thread for more info, and how you can test at additional resolutions.
