I'm pleased to announce that the WSGF has started a partnership with online/print magazine PC Games Hardware (English - German). We have integrated their RSS feed into our site, and will be featuring news stories from them in the forum and the home page.

I've uploaded Surround Comparison videos of the benchmarking runs on my new GTX 295. They are in YouTube in 720p HD. You can see them in the WSGF Video gallery. The videos are of: Half Life 2: Episode 2, Crysis Warhead and Far Cry 2.

Dopefish had made another version for his widescreen fixer. The list of changes you can find in the forum. If you'd like to donate as a thank you to Dopefish, hit up the donation link at his site.

With the recent WOW updates, it now properly supports Hor+. To showcase the proper FOV, I've uploaded a Surround Comparison video for each of the opening cinematics. There are 13 individual cinematics showing the difference between 1680x1050 and 3x1680x1050. Additionally, I have created a montage for all of the Alliance cinematics, and for all of the Horde cinematics.

A while ago we made a guide for enabling widescreen on Id's old games available in Steam's Id Super Pack, but one major disappointment of that pack that we could not fix was that Quake's most excellent music was disabled in the first two games. So I made a patch that re-enables the music. Instructions for using it are integrated into our guide, as most of the things you need to do in order to make widescreen work are also things you need to do to make the music patch work.

General Admission put together a Surround Gaming video of the first six minutes of Just Cause.

I've gone through and updated the videos in the Gallery (and re-uploading to YouTube where needed), to take advantage of YouTube's new offerings. The default video format and resolution is now the "High Quality" version displayed at 840x525 (1/4 of 1680x1050). Under each video is a link to view the 720p version in full 1280x720. It's really nice to see the videos in HD; and the Surround videos have a much bigger impact now.

infernus posted a few days ago that YouTube had gone widescreen. This certainly helps all of our videos, and makes the Surround Gaming videos easier to see. In addition, most everything uploaded after May 2008 is available in 720p HD. By adding "&fmt=22" to the end of the video URL, the video will play in 720p (if available).

The "&fmt=18" string still works to get rougly 480p resolution. I will be re-uploading all our older videos to the WSGF YouTube Channel so we can take advantage of the new 720p capabilities.

I wanted to take a few minutes to wish all of our US readers a Happy Thanksgiving, and to thank everyone for their help and support over the years. The site recently celebrated its 5th anniversary, and it has certainly grown in ways I could never have imagined. Thank you to everyone who has helped me the site a success through donations of your time and money.

Crowing won the TripleHead2Go in our recent raffle. He decided to give it to Racer_S. We are now taking donations so that we can get three widescreens to go along with it. Racer_S has been invaluable to the WSGF community with his widescreen and Surround hacks. He has done all of this while working on an old 4:3 monitor.
