I've followed the guides for RTCW (Q3 based games) and have a small problem.

The game works at 1920*1200 but sometimes, when a new level loads, it crashes back to the desktop. It's not a random thing, the same levels crash every time and the others never crash. (I hope that's clear)

The solution I've come up with was to set the r_customheight and r_customwidth to what I want and add two binds...

bind f1 "r_mode -1; vid_restart"
bind f3 "r_mode 9; vid_restart"

Whenever I'm about to end a level I just press f3 for 1600*1200 and when the next level has loaded, f1 for 1920*1200 wonderfulness.

While this works, it's not ideal. Does anyone know why it's crashing and if there's anything I can do to stop it?

thanks
Jumbles

Thanks!

It's not exactly elegant, but it'll do for now :)

I am not sure either, the Quake 3 engine works fine for widescreen...so it may have to do with the way it is tweaked.

I had a problem with the Single Player, where it wouldn't remember my FOV settings when I reloaded saves.

I got the idea for my solution from here. You have to change the variable for cg_fov in wolfconfig.cfg (and wolfconfig_mp.cfg for multiplayer, obviously), just having the command in your autoexec.cfg isn't adequate enough.

You may even be able to put all that into one command by seperating teh command with a colon. It can bee with many Q3 cvars.

I can confirm this issue as I was about to post it myself.

The game page http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php/Return_to_Castle_Wolfenstein needs to be updated with this rather critical 'known issue'

Widescreen does work in RTCW as described but the following issues occur:

1) When the game starts, the screen is black while the title animation plays. You can press a key to skip it and continue.
2) Between certain levels there are cut scenes and wide screen resolutions will cause a crash at this point 100% of the time. If you temporarily switch to a standard resolution, you can get past this crash event and continue the game.
3) Setting cg_fov to something other than 90 works visually, but after 1 or 2 game loads, it will be set to cg_fov "90" unless you flag the file read only.

Also, as described in other posts:
1) The config file is called wolfconfig.cfg and is located in Main
2) The cg_fov variable is not already in the config file, you have to add it.

I was testing widescreen at 1920x1200 on a Vista PC.
