What in the heck...can anyone please fix this atrocity?

The game is 21:9 - but the cinematics and all conversations/any cutscenes play out in 16:9

HUD is broken as well. Cutscenes are boxed out. Personally the HUD bothers me more than anything and I'd really appreciate a fix for that.

Yeah..it's super bad. I'll totally donate to whoever can fix this

seems like the hud is forced centered on 16:9.
It works pretty well in Eyefinity/Surround, but i guess they didn't think about 21:9 users. Ingame Cutscenes are Pillarboxed? Left and Right Black border and 16:9 format? Screenshots please |

hey guys.
Anyone here thinks he has the time to add 21:9 Screenshots ? Witcher 3 Detailed Report There is a Savegame file attached in the DR, if you have the GoG version of the game, unzip it and place it under "This PC->Documents->The Witcher 3->gamesaves" should work with v1.01 (Day 1 patch) |

I added the 21:9 screenshot to the report. Thanks for the save game file. |

Thanks...but the cutscenes being pillarboxed is worse. Any fix please?

Oh wow a fix so fast awesome!

There is no fix yet..just a HUD fix ...which is the least annoying compared to pillarboxed scenes

Hi guys, is anyone trying to fix the Witcher 3 cutscenes? For GTAV the Flawless Widescreen fix was out on release day, which was really cool. But does anyone care about W3?
Thanks in advance, I would really appreciate it. |
Yeah, I can only concur, the boxed cutscenes really breaks immersion for this game. By far the most annoying thing for me.

Really hoping someone is working on a fix for this. I would if I knew how! Those black bars in 21:9 totally suck.

here is my patched exe, it corrects the value for cutscene (removes black bars left and right) and some hud elemts to 21:9. together with the changes "cisce" mention, fixes all problems. just videos bink i guess are staying 16:9

http://www.file-upload.net/download-10644395/witcher3_21-9_fix_v1.04.rar.html well there are not much other changes, there is just one constant wich sets the ratio for cutscenes (also ingame dialogs) and i noticed some hud elements are placed correctly then (like tutorial boxes). sadly some loadingscreen seems broken. ![]() |

Make a backup of your witcher3.exe and then replace the moded one with the original. The .exe can be found in GOG Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64. |

Thanks Zens, you are my hero! Only problem I still have is that I use a 5760:1080, which a 16:3 aspect ratio. Could you please, please make an exe for that ratio as well? Never mind, I just found it by simply comparing the old and new exe file with an hex editor and just tinkering with the code. Anyone who wants to have the file for 5760:1080 ratio just pm me. |

Nvidia was working on improving Witcher 3 performance for Kepler owners: http://wccftech.com/nvidia-working-driv ... witcher-3/
The 353.06 WHQL driver has just been released because of the 980ti launch: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverRe ... 5823/en-us There was no mention of this in the 353.06 release notes. However, my fps has gone up from 58.2 to 63.4 (save near Red Barons house). Anyone else experiencing the same kind of improvement? Maybe they didn't mention it, because they want kepler owners to buy the 980ti. Just a hypothesis. |

Unfortunately, as of today's patch, the 21:9 cutscene fix/.exe doesn't work anymore.
Thanks for all your help zens, your work is awesome! What would be even better is if you could post how you go about decompiling the exe and editing it, so that we can all do it by ourselves when there is a patch -Mezz |
It does. Just replace the .exe file again; it'll tell the game that it's running 1.03, but everything will be just as if you're running 1.04. |
I got the GOG version and latest version is still 1.04.
"Teach a man to fish...", well im using a non public version of ollydbg x64 wich is still under development, but it should be possible, to take a hex editor and compare the original with the patched exe to see what i patched. ![]() |
Hey I am trying to get mine to work because the black bars really are very distracting and I cant focus on the cutscene.
So do I place this exe file IN the gamesave folder, then just click play in GOG? When I do this, it doesnt work. When I try to run the .exe I get "physxcommon_x64.dll is missing" and it cant run. If it doesn't work, I might just have to drop the resolution to regular 1440p until another fix is made, because it ruins the cutscenes. |
Thanks for sharing that with us, Zens. I looked at this ollydbg, but I have to confess I have no idea how one can find the aspect ratio setting for dialogues in all that gibberish. I tried to look for the hex pattern I found by comparing the exe files, but I didn´t get any hits. Would you mind revealing what to look for here? By the way, patch 1.05 should be out tomorrow, I hope. |
i can try to explain, well mostly such data like are stored as constant in .rdata (its section in the binary .exe). So as its a constant it stays there for later use. ok now for example 21:9 = 2.3 and 16:9 = 1,777777777777778
devs like to have that values stored as floating point. in that case its a simple code error by just taking the vertical resolution wich is 1080 but 16:9 as we know is using 1080 aswell as nativ resolution so the function wich works as a switch jumps to the stored value for 16:9 wich is 1.7 but we need 2.3... here is snipped of that switch: ![]() well and finding such stuff it helps speaking assembler, wich i cant teach u. so if u found the function u have two options dissamble the function to jump to the right value or just modificate the wrong constant to the right one (thats the way i chose). so now we have a pattern for a patch look next executable will have "398EE33F55551540" and u have to modifie the first 4 bytes to "CD901840" ![]() that error btw is generic atm for detecting the right ration on a 21:9 screen cause of the same vertical value, devs using codesnippeds or workshops etc so often code is unique then in debugger, like copy paste bug. |
is the .exe working for everyone else?
Hallo Zens!
Thank you so much - work like a charm! I was able to "edit" the exe on my own Do you have any idea how to get the "main" menu and the cinematic cutscenes also in 21:9? Its really annoying because they are originaly produced for 21:9 (see horizontal black bars) but they are cropped down to 16:9 LOL -... so how can i get to 21:9 without the horizontal black bars? Thanks man. |
hi, well i was searching for the code, but so far i dont have anything. the menus seems to be in a flash layer so it will get strechted i guess, same for videos if possible.
i'm also searching - no luck yet. Do you think we will get an answer if we write CDPR?`
i would love to have the MAP also in 21:9 ^^ |
im happy with the game as it is atm, i guess that will get fixed, but for sure not in the next 3 patches.
btw there is a post here in the forum to fix the hud (incl. the minimap) http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=158281#p158281 edit: ah sry ya the map and stuff is flash maybe i find something. |

And as we speak Patch 1.05 (Steam) gets roled out, so the Black Bars Fix doesnt work for me anymore, could someone try to fix this again and maybe provide the new 1.05 .exe file.
Thanks |

From the patch notes. I can confirm the HUD is now spanning properly for 21:9 aspect ratio. The black bars are still present during cut-scenes. |
I can confirm this as well. So, those who applied the .ini fix for the hud, must now change back to what it was before. The pillarboxing has now returned with a vengeance, so a new .exe is needed badly. |
New .exe is provided by zens. Thanks for that

Thank you! I've been using your fix since 1.04, and it has been awesome. I really love not having black bars. |

yeah man - unbelievable. but i cannot find a link to the adress where i edit the ratio --... damn!!! |

Setting the UI vertical and horizontal scale to 1.02 allows the HUD elements to be slightly nearer to the edges of the screen without cutting off anything.
And the new .exe seems to work alright. Great work! |

Patch 1.07 just hit steam. Looks like a new fix is in order
EDIT: False alarm. Giant 2GB update was not an actual patch. |
Not an actual patch?
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015- ... -tiny-text Introduces a number of improvements in the game streaming system. Players should experience fewer blurred textures, NPC spawn times should be markedly reduced, and there should be an overall improvement in the speed with which game assets are loaded. Streaming system improvements should be most noticeable on consoles and systems with non-SSD drives. Improves performance in the swamps of the No Man's Land region. Fixes an issue whereby the presence of fog could adversely affect game performance. Optimizes various FX which should result in improved performance during the Battle of Kaer Morhen quest. Introduces a number of optimizations that improve overall performance throughout the game. Improves overall game performance. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I'm curious the games performance after this patch and whether it affects much or not. I haven't had the time to test yet but wish they'd get on top of the SLi scaling issues. |

Thanks zens, much appreciated! You have named it gog, I assume that's the version you have? I can confirm that this works with the Steam version either way. A question, which I forgot to ask you last patch, there seems to be black bars in the cut scenes still, but they are veeery small, only 5-10 pixels or something like that. Do you know why that is? I only noticed it a while ago, so I don't know if this has been the case with all the versions. |
Hi all,
And thank zens for the awesome patch! Would anyone have an umodified Witcher3.exe from patch 1.05? I replaced mine with zens to enjoy widescreen cutscenes while I was still running v. 1.05 - but now the game won't patch to 1.07 over this modified exe (it just says the 1.07 patch is not compatible with my version of the Witcher, although technically the patch available on gog.com is for version 1.02+). Should have kept the original .exe just in case, I know! Thanks in advance for the help - this would avoid me the trouble of having to reinstall the entire game :-/ |
Thanks a lot Zens,it's very helpfull.Thanks again
Named it gog just to clarify, allready tought it would work with steam, only diffrence is the missing steam wrapper in the gog executable. The small black bars left is easy to explain, i used a diffrent float value 2,3333333 resulting on 21:9... (i guess) in the first patch, but correct one should be "2,370370" (2560/1080).... so there shouldnt any bars left anymore now. btw. same behavior is in GTA5 but theire algo checks for 2.3333333 as only accepted float value so there is no simply way to patch it (specialy cause of the drm) with the correct one "2,370370" wich results in smalls bars sadly. |
Aaah, I see. Well, that makes things hairier then I guess. You're using 2.370370 - which corresponds to 2560x1080, but the float value for 3440x1440 is 2.3888...89 (43:18). Without messing it up for the 2560x1080 users, is it possible to change it to match the 3440x1440 users? Which begs another question in general; for 21:9, which is the most widespread resolution of the two - does anyone know? |
try this one (float 2.388888):
http://www.file-upload.net/download-10785445/witcher3_3440x1440_fix.rar.html ...the higher float "can" work for 2560x1080 too, depends on the code functions, didnt tested it atm. EDIT:

I've been lurking here since the first 21:9 fix. Finally register to say thank you zens for the fast update.
I also agree with what Northmountain says as there is still the small black bars in your recent 3440x1440 fix. I remember before update 1.04 there is a fix where you code it perfectly with no black bar on the sides. Hopefully you can identify what the kink is and give us another great update. |

Hey zens, awesome work man!
Sadly i'm still encountering black bars here and there. i am running a 21:9 2560x1080 screen with your latest fix and still have blackbars in some cutscenes. for example when ciri htis the helm over the wall in the tutorial scene. Or the following, where you see geralt sleeping. Any ideas? |
Hi Grinser, evrything 3d rendered by the engine, is black bar free. Rest are Videos.
Hey zens.
I have still a 3D rendered sequence that has black bars: http://imgur.com/DC6lHFD Probably just a limitation of that scene then? |
hmm, looks prerendered to me, like those scenes with "wild hunt".

Hmm, it indeed is one. Messed around with the appearances and the graphic settings and it is indeed pre rendered. Thanks for your help zens

It doesnt work with steam version
I was wondering the same thing, back on page 5 zens gives some information, but I do not see anything about "changing 398EE33F to 8AE31840" in there anywhere... are you doing that via a hex editor, or? Can you please post where that information came from? Thank you, LB |

Hi guys, here is the link for 1.08.1.
Always make a backup of the original version just in case. witcher3.exe version 1.08.1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And here is my tutorial, with original credit going to zens. I hope the explanation is clear and helpful. I use this portable hex editor, but you can use whichever you want. http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/f ... m#download Backup the file before you mess at your own risk OK, on page 5, zens posts this tutorial image: ![]() As you can see, zens changes the floating point "398EE33F" to "CD901840" "398EE33F" = 16:9 = 1.77778 "CD901840" = 21:9 = 2.33333 However, "CD901840" leaves small black bars on the left and right sides as seen here ![]() To fix this problem, let's look at the specs of our ultrawide 2560:1080 = 2.37037 3440:1440 = 2.38889 So it seems the correct value is closer to 2.38888 than 2.33333. The floating point for 2.38888 is "8AE31840" which I cheat by looking at zens' most recent fix. I have no idea how he convert the numerical number to floating point Now open the hex editor, hit Ctrl+F and type in 55 55 15 40 Our floating point is always before this group of numbers. ![]() Then simply type in our new floating point "8AE31840" You are done. Enjoy the game. ![]() Last edited by SaskiaAedirn on 22 Aug 2015, 16:50, edited 1 time in total.

SaskiaAedirn, im using a debugger to convert float to hex, but there are some converter in web. http://gregstoll.dyndns.org/~gregstoll/floattohex/
it gives u a DWORD (stack size of 4byte) as output. and in plain hex line u have to reverse it. like 1234567 gets 7654321. dunno how i shall explain that now on quick. As example here is how all this looks in runtime memory of a running process: 32 BIT FLOATING POINT: ![]() 32 BIT INTEGER (4 Byte DWORD in 64bit app): ![]() HEXADECIMAL: ![]() ...hope that helps a bit to understand. |

If anyone is looking for the sequence for 2560x1080, it is 24 B4 17 40
Confirmed working on steam version 1.08. I used CFF Explorer as Hex Editor and made 2 mistakes while trying to figure it out 1) CFF Explorer asks if I want to load first 40 mb of the file, so I did (expecting the required sequence to be in the beginning). However when I was saving, it also saved just the 1st 40 mb of the file, and the rest of it was gone, LOL. Good thing I backed up. 2) Then I misread the instructions - I thought you should replace the 55 55 15 40 with your sequence. No, you need to replace the 4 byte sequence before it! |

There was a new patch today for the achievement bug, so I did a quick fix of my own! This will work for 3440x1440. Someone could test it out. If there are different values needed, I could patch them, I just need to know where to put them. Thanks to SaskiaAedirn for the tutorial to do the fix.
Edit: I tried making one for 2560x1080. Someone can try testing it below. Let me know if it works! I also tested 3440x1440 in a cutscene, and everything worked fine. ![]() |

PyroDonkey - I'm using the 2560x1080 version and so far it's working perfectly.
Made an account to say thank you, and awesome job to everyone in this thread. The game switching to 16:9 for cut-scenes was really breaking immersion. |

Thank you pyrodonkey, And everyone else who works on these fixes, Its working great now!

it would be fantastic if someone could supply their working .exe file for every patch somewhere on the thread.
even better if it could be linked in the original thread post - that would make it alarmingly easy for noobs at all of this, such as me, to get these games working very easily without sifting through a whole thread to find the tutorial, the download files and ant followup. know its a lot to ask but if someone that does it anyway uploaded them it shouldnt be a significant time hassle for them. |

hi does this fix the cutscenes? just found this thread and i just updated to 1.10 can you confirm this works? and where do i put the downloaded file? thanks!

Just rename the file witcher3.exe and replace the one in Program Files\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Witcher 3\bin\x64 or wherever you installed the game.
The file works for me, I get no black bars during cutscenes (except for the pre-rendered movies, can't do anything about that) and conversations. |

I meant to log back on last night just to thank you. I figured it out last night and it works amazing. You have no idea how long I was going crazy because of those cut scenes. Thanks a million times!!

Hey. I have an issue and was wondering if anybody could help. I'm currently running Witcher 3 1.08 with a patched exe for 21:9 compatibility that I got from these forums and it's been working just fine. Now with Hearts of Stone out I'd love to install it, but I can't update to 1.10 because the patch won't install. I suspect it's because of the modified exe I have. Luckily I still have the original 1.08 exe in a backup folder. Now, is there a new modified exe for 1.10 available?

After the 1.12 patch, editing the .exe with the hex editor like this post covers doesn't seem to work anymore. I edited the .exe with hex editor for 21:9 like before and I no longer get cut scenes that fill the 5892x1080 surround resolution. Has anyone else noticed this?

can someone please uplaod the 2560x1080 fix for 1.12?

So after reading the guide from earlier I tried editing the .exe myself for 21:9 3440x1400 and it works.
I replaced the second entry of 39 8E E3 3F with 8AE31840 (simple copy and paste) using Hex Editor, works like a charm and thanks Zens for the hard work. |

So...Can any good soul please upload the .exe for 3440x1440 ?
Thanks in advance ! |

I finally figured out the issue...I was substituting the wrong value. The value quoted in the fix is for 3440x1440. That doesn't work for Nvidia Surround resolution like 5892x1080 which is what I'm using. I used the value of E8 93 AE 40 which is the HEX equivalent for 5.455555 (in reverse order). 5892/1080=5.455555. 5.455555 in HEX is 40 AE 93 E8. Reverse it and substitute and you're good to go for 5760 x 1080 resolution.

Hey guys, hope I'm still in time for this thread!
I've downloaded every single fix here to remove the black bars in cutscenes, none of it seems to work for me The last fix link provided by Ci7rus got to me with damaged files, I use 7zip to unzip it, does have to do with it? Can you share it again please? Does this fix works with the 1.12 steam version? The only thing to do it's to switch the .exes on the bin folder? Am I missing something? Sorry for the boring questions, Thanks in advance. AH. |

I'm also new to UltraWidescreen 3440x1440.
In User Settings I changed the uiHorizontalFrameScale from its current =0.93889 to =1.3 (simply because previous to the 1.21 update I had changed it to 1.3 from its then 1, and I assumed I should do the same again). Don't know if I should have or not, but everything seems to be still working okay although I also get the same side thing as you show in your image.

Hmmmm. Do I just play with the HorizontalFrameScale figures till I find one that works fine or is there a way of calculating what it should be?

You can play with it. One value as name suggest changes the vertical other horizontal, bigger numbers means you move the UI more to the sides. But try with small steps 1.02 1.03 etc.. even 1.025 depends on your resolution of course
There could be a way to implement an in-game sliders menu for that - I'm looking in making it. // Hm I've managed to done it by some trial & error. 1) Didn't find a way to make it count in more finer gradients (1.04xy etc) 2) Must reload a save to take effect ![]() |

I'm using the 1.22 version of the hacked exe file, but the game just freezes in the opening screen where it says "Witcher 3 is a trademark, bla, bla, bla". It seems to start maybe one in four times after I've restarted the PC and if it does it runs perfectly, but most of the time I can't get it running. Has anyone experience anything similar?
Very strange.
Can't say I've experienced that at all and I am sorry but I can't think why it may be doing that. I'm no technical wizard by any means. I'm with the GOG registered version and always start with the Screen shortcut. The Trademark stuff disappears very quickly and the next few screens can be space-barred through. I can understand how this must be very frustrating and I hope someone else may have a suggestion that is of help to you.. |
The exe file is just the regular exe with edited hex values right? What exactly would I need to change for a 2560x1080 resolution? I tried to find the post that had the info, but I can't seem to locate it right now.

Check out Martan's posts- he is on 2560 x 1080 and it's his fix that worked for me and I'm on 3440 x1440. Try his post on 15th June at 20.19 - and read before that to get the flow.
I did nothing except use his linked fix, although as you will read, I did also tinker with the User horizontal and vertical settings. |

Hm, I just edited the 1.24 exe with the program listed in the post on page 12 and zipped it. So I guess file-upload.net is the problem - the zip-file itself is clean.
I can upload it somewhere else when I'm home from work or you have to wait for someone else to share. |

I have followed the guide on page 12 to make my own fix. Using HxD I replaced the 8 characters that come before 55 55 15 40 with 8A E3 18 40. Sadly the cut-sceness look a little zoomed in to me. In the guide SaskiaAedirn talked about 2 different values, but I assume you only need to change one, correct?

Thanks again, got the fix working right now. Witcher 3 does have 3M support but why not allow cutscenes to span further than 16:9 as an option in the menu at least? Although on occasion there's weirdness, cutscenes just look so amazing on triple wide wow! |

I installed the 1.31 version in my steam folder (which was 1.30) and it doesn't work. the cutscenes are still bordered, but do look the right aspect. Not sure what's going on there?
I am on a 2560X1080 setup also. |

Hi There, I'm having wither 3 version 1.07 and i have tried to run the 1.22 version posted by u, it has crashed. I'm using x34 Acer

Welcome, mrramin
Are you sure you are still on Witcher3 version 1.07? If you are, why try to run the fix for the 1.22 version if you have version 1.07? Either use the version 1.07 fix, or update your Witcher 3 (I think there's been quite a few patches since 1.07) and use the appropriate subsequent fix. Good luck. I have an Acer 34 Predator, too, and the fixes worked for me. I trust you read the whole thread just to get the feel of things. I don't fiddle with hex values- I just apply the fix. Don't know how computer savvy you are, but if it's any help you could check out my May thread about thirty threads below this one and captioned Grandpa needs a little reassurance and you will see how I was guided through the necessary adjustments. Forgive me if you don't need it. Let's know how you get on. |

Sorry to sound like a broken record but im new here. I just installed the W3 GOTY and all the cutscenes and the start screen is boxed from the sides. Im running 3440x1440 with x34, how do I get this thing to work? I just paste the correct .exe in the folder? I used the ones on the last page (1.31) and the one from before that (1.30), neither of them work. Im using Steam btw.

Hi,beari. I was new only a few months ago.
Did you read the thread I mentioned a couple of posts higher called 'Grandpa needs a little reassurance''? At the top of this page you'll see Board Index- Gaming -21:9 & Ultrawide. Click on 21:9 & Ultrawide (which is the Forum containing this thread and the Grandpa one I mentioned). Do glance down that thread because the process had to be explained to me. At first I, too, was lost. Check what version of Witcher 3 you are running -it's that fix version you need. I don't think Steam or Gog makes any difference. Then check where your Witcher3.exe file is. Download the relative fix, then in the download file change its name so it exactly matches the name of the existing Witcher3 .exe file. i.e., Witcher3.exe or whatever it is. Then copy and paste it into the folder containing the existing Witcher3.exe file and because the files have identical names you should get a pop-up message saying the file you are trying to put into the folder already exists in the folder and do you want to replace it. You do, and Bingo! Good luck. Any help to you? ETA- If I have said anything misleading here I hope someone more knowledgeable than I will correct me. |

Thanks a bunch for the help! I had done all that except modifying the test-file, but it's not working. I'm asking if all I should be doing is replacing the .exe with a file downloaded from here. If that's it, I've no idea why its not working. Maybe i've the wrong file, at first I used the one on the previous page posted by the witcher, then I tried the on from Athlonxp2400. Neither of those worked. I think im running the 1.30 version.
Gee, beari, I'm sorry things aren't working yet.
Yes, it's just a question of replacing the existing .exe with the fix one but they must be the same version and for you, the 3440 x 1440 version. Keep in mind that any subsequent patch that changes your version of Witcher 3 means you have to replace the .exe with a revised version of the fix. If you were running 1.30 and used the 1.30 fix, then tried to play, if Steam then updated you to version 1.31 that would mean the 1.30 patch isn't going to work because you now need the 1.31 patch. Have you tried running as is online, then checking what version of Witcher3 you have, then selecting the appropriate fix. Maybe someone else can pin down where it's going wrong for you. At least you can keep trying. ETA- Probably nothing to do with it but I presume your Acer Predator is set for 3440 x 1440 through a display port, and the Nvidia Control panel (if you are on Nvidia) is showing the required refresh rate. I had to reduce mine to 95hz because I crashed on 100hz. Just mentioning out of interest - Rise of the Tomb Raider needs no tweaking for 3440 x 1440 on 21:9 although pre-rendered cut scenes are in 16:9. I didn't mind it and didn't find it particularly distracting. |
So it should be that easy. Well I've done it, and its not working. I presume I was on 1.30, but it changes with the exe i use. I've tried both tho so it shouldnt be an issue. So I just replace the exe in x64 folder with the .exe? Do i need to tinker with the options in the game after i change the exe? Should i just reinstall? Are others playing the GOTY version on steam without these issues? Why did my W3 show im 1.30 if 1.31 is the newest version, shouldnt steam update it automatically? I'm lost, and I really would like to enjoy the game wihtout letterboxes. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth, W3 and Dota2 not working with 21:9, dissapointed in 21:9 so far when it comes to gaming...
I'm sorry things are still not working for you, beari, but I don't know what else to say. I obviously can't answer for Steam but the version is always shown in the Witcher opening page.
Check the Options by all means to see your choices are connected. When exactly does the game crash? Hope someone else chimes in shortly either to assist or to say the fix worked for them. |
My game isn't crashing, the cutscenes and starting screen are simply in the wrong aspect ratio. The game is working perfectly in 21:9. The version is shown in the opening page, but it changes with the exe I use (if i use 1.31 fix it says 1.31 and if i use 1.30 fix, it says 1.30). Anyhow, it isn't working. I'm giving up, here's hoping the devs do something official to make it work.

From Amoveo's post to me in April in the 'Grandpa needs a little assurance 'thread to which I referred you earlier and which I presumed you had read.
Removing Black Bars from Cutscenes Download either the 2560x1080 or the 3440x1440 exe based on your intention. Find your Witcher 3 exe (Likely places include C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common and wherever you install GOG games. Take the exe you downloaded and replace your Witcher 3 exe with it (this is totally reversible but you can copy the original exe somewhere else for safekeeping if you feel better.) Then in order to fix the UI to make it move to the far corners of the screen . Moving the UI to the edges Go to Documents\The Witcher 3 Open the User.settings Folder with notepad. The seventh line from the top should be uiHorizontalFrameScale=1, change it to uiHorizontalFrameScale=1.3 Save the document Right Click it and choose properties to open up a little properties window for the document Check the Read-only box and click ok You say you've done everything - but I'm just checking you did these last steps re the UI. |
I did the HUD thing, but it has no effect on cutscenes. It does, however, move the hud elements offscreen so i just leave it at 1. It seems like the fix should just happen by replacing the .exe, and it's not happening. It seems you are playing the vanilla W3 from GOG. Don't know if the issue is with the fact im running the GOTY with Steam. I really do appreciate the help, it's just not working for me.

Your links dont work anymore. Can you reupload them? |

Hello, Widescreengamers! I am also using Steams GOTY Version (What is only half-correct, because I bought witcher 3 Vanilla + all Addons, which in fact with Patch 1.31 is exactly the same), and am experiencing exactly the same issues as beari. All done as intended, fix doesn´t work. Also when I change the value to 1.3 parts of the UI are offscreen. Would be extremely thankful if somebody found a fix. Screen is an Acer predator x34a (Sorry, will add a signature in the evening) edit: I somehow felt sorry for beari, as he seemed to be alone here with his problem. which always has a smell of "done something wrong". Either he didn´t, or we both suck |

Hello widescreen fellows,
as Garwinski said above the links are broken so here is 1.31 exe for 21:9 I have created. Works for 2560x1080. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5m65G ... sp=sharing For future if new update is out just open exe with Hex editor e.g. HxD editor and replace second occurrence of 39 8E E3 3F with 8A E3 18 40 than save and play |

Works perfectly.. Thanks a bunch!

Whenever I use a fixed exe for the cutscenes (3440x1440) the lips of the characters don't move, using german language, if I switch to english it works again. Any help?

Could I get one for 2560x1080 with the lip sync fixed please? For English.
I just noticed, there's lipsyncing for the main game, but not for the DLC's. Thank you for adding my request. However, talking is still bugged for the DLC quest and stories. Any ideas what causes this? I hear everyone talk, but no lips move, cutscene or otherwise. Lips still not moving in DLC, but thank you for trying! |
Thank you! Works perfectly now for me! But how did you did it? I tried HxD Editor by myself, but the lips didn't move what so ever. |
Ex3cut3r, did any of the expansion pack quest work for you? Were there lips moving? Also what language you playing in.

Well I just started the main game, never played it so far. How can I start one of the expansion DLC without messing up my savegame?
I am playing in german language btw. |

@Dippeggs please upload your zipped exe file, maybe there is something different because of the selected language...I switched to english but he wants to download 34gb^^
I tested both DLC's and I have lipsync AND 21:9...so maybe an english (or whatever language you have) exe would help |

I'm still having troubles with this. I'm using 2560x1080 1.31 GOTY version. I used ne0w's exe file above, cutscener are 21:9 but I still get the lipsync bug.

which language do you have? Can you upload your zipped exe file that I can check it for you? |

I'm using the21:9 English link you provided just on top of my post.

ok I think I didnt said it clearly, I want your original exe, to see if there is something different to my exe files. Just zip or rar your exe and upload it to a site of your choice. Maybe the exe files differ not only in language... |

I don't know how you did it, but that fix worked for me! Thank you!

so your uploaded exe is exactly like my exe...I think the difference is not the language. I changed my upper post. Try the GOTY exe this should be the fix. |

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party I'm absolutely loving the witcher game of the year edition in 3440x1440 apart from the cut scenes which are stuck in 16:9 ratio ..I use steam to play the game.
Does anybody have the .exe file for steam goty edition please apologies if its been posted I cant seem to see it. Also with the risk of sounding a complete idiot do I just replace the .exe file in my steam library witcher folder? Thank you very much guys |
21:9 GOTY 21:9 others try my GOTY exe file, maybe it just work. Yes just replace the exe in your steam folder, but make a copy of the original exe, maybe I need it later to make a 21:9 exe. If none of my exe work for you upload your original exe to a hoster of your choice and post the link here, i will take a look. |

It's been a while since anyone posted here and I'm a bit unsure whether I should be reviving an old topic or not, but here I am... Sorry if this has been covered and annihilated elsewhere. I prefer to talk to you guys and gals, anyway. I've downloaded several of these .exe fixes for TW3 and most of them worked, but for the main game only - any DLC content installed has no lip sync, unfortunately. I used ne0w's fix, as suggested, and also several others found both here and on /r/ultrawidemasterrace, but the same problem occurs. At this point, I'm unsure whether it is possible to have the DLC lip sync working at all, teehee. Anyway... This is pretty immersion-breaking for me. Thanks in advance. Followed SaskiaAedirn's tutorial and got it working for me. If you're reading this and have trouble with what I mentioned on the wall of text above, just give the tutorial a try. It's easy, simple and, well, it works. |

Not a single version here works for me !! PLS HELP .
I have Witcher 3 NOT GOTY (I have the original game on release and got the DLC one after the other) , Steam , 2560x1080 , patch 1.31 . From page 25 to 28 I have tried all files and none of them worked , my game did not start . |

I used the GOTY exe you posted and it fixed my cutscenes/conversations however my main menu at the start of the game and cinematcs such as the loading screens still are viewed as 16:9 ratio. Is there a fix for those too? |

Hi guys...
I know that I'm late to the party, but I couldn't see anyone mentioning editing pre-rendered cutscenes to not stretch. As I just started running this game in 5760x1200 (3x 16:10), it really bothered me that the pre-rendered cutscenes were stretching outside the middle monitor. I just wanted to note that editing the "The Witcher 3\content\content0\engine\swf\videoplayer.redswf" header "Display rect" works for me. I used JPEXS Free Flash Decompiler to modify an extracted swf-file, that I extracted and packed as a mod with Sacren's W3 Edit. Maybe someone with a similar problem can find this while googling... |

Hello! I tried this fix for 2560x1080 and it worked like a charm, however during cutscenes the game has to load into the cutscene (around a 10-second loading screen), and then in the middle of each cutscene when I select a dialogue option, the cutscene needs to load the dialogue option for another 10 seconds. I reverted back to my 16:9 witcher3.exe and the weird cutscene loading was gone, but of course the black bars are back. I made this fix to the non-GOTY Witcher 3 exe installed through Origin, I was wondering if this issue has ever been experienced before or if there is a workaround for it? |

Hi asryan
The solution for your issue is posted just above your post. If you haven't solved it yet and If you have trouble following those steps, upload your game executable somewhere and I can do them for you. I don't hang out in these forums a lot tho, the quickest way of contacting me would be through Telegram: t.me/blondevincent |

I have the Steam version with all expansions and Im searching a 32:9 patch. Does anyone have the EXE ready?
Besides the SaskiaAedirn's tutorial works on 16:9 / 21:9. What would be the value to put for a resolution of 3840x1080? Thanks! |
