Widescreen Solution & Issues:
Launcher only lists 4:3 resolutions. To change the aspect ratio detection open MR.exe a hex editor and search for AB AA AA 3F. Replace this with your chosen aspect ratio (see common hex values). The launcher will then show resolutions with that aspect ratio.
A collection of pre-patched executables are attached to this report (made using the Steam version). files available from the PC Gaming Wiki Community Files (search there).
The HUD scales correctly. Most other 2D elements are stretched from 4:3. 3D elements and FMV cutscenes are scaled correctly.
