By default game supports only 4:3 resolution.
Hor+ solution:
Replace BF1942.exe and Mods folder from this archive - available from the PC Gaming Wiki Community Files (search there)
All supported resolutions will be available in the game menu.
Stretch solution:
You need to edit the file "Video.con." In the demo, it can be found at
\Settings\Profiles\Custom
In the full version, I believe it can be found at
\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Custom
Edit this line:
game.setDisplayMode 800 600 32
Change the first two numbers to set your resolution.
