I recently purchased the Dell 30Hz 28" 4k UHD panel. While AussieTimmeh was down for a visit, a few of the local members got together to put it through its paces. We wanted to see how each game handled 4k UHD resolutions, how they would perform with a single Radeon R9 290, and how 30Hz impacted the gameplay experience. In total we tested: Battlefield 4, DiRT Showdown, Natural Selection 2, Guild Wars 2, Torchlight II, Lego Batman 2, Pac-Mac Championship Edition DX+ and Tom Clancy's H.A.W.K.

Some games worked perfectly, some faired okay, and others were simply unplayable. Come see how your favorite game performed, and whether 4k UHD was preferred over 1080p, Eyefinity or 21:9.

I'm VERY pleased to share with everyone, the brand new WSGF Podcast. This is something that I've wanted to do for a long time, but have never had the time to devote to it. Luckily two local Houston-area members of the WSGF, Simon "TheDestroyer" and Chris "peanut" have taking up idea, and will produce a regular podcast that covers WSGF news, gaming in general, and a look at their favorite rigs from reddit/r/battlestations.

I'm proud to announce two new options for the WSGF Edition Stands, and for all of the Freedom line by Ergotech. The first is a through-desk mount, which allows for a superbly clean desk space (when wall mounting isn't an option). The second is a "short pole" version of the wall-mount kit. This provides a wall-mount option (with the appropriate pole length) for owners of the Freedom Triple or Triple XL stands.

Additionally, Ergotech has recently discontinued the ICE Cube power option. They do have a new model in the works, but it is a few months out. I've gone through some testing to find a suitable replacement, though none are really as elegant a solution as the ICE Cube. All three options here are outlined in the three YouTube videos below.

The folks over at Humble Bundle just revealed their latest weekly bundle. The new set contains: Samorost 2, Machinarium, Lume, Windosill, Shelter and Botanicula. We have entries in our database for Machinarium and Botanicula, but lack entries for the other four.

In what is becoming an annual tradition, the WSGF is returning a bit of our bounty to the hardworking volunteers that do so much heavy lifting to make the site run all year long. This year (as we did last year), I am giving $100 Steam cards to our Admins - AussieTimmeh, Brett, CrackerJackMack, Delphium and Skid.

This year we are also gifting $50 in Steam cash to each of our active Moderators - GeneralAdmission, Haldi, thelolotov, Scavvenjahh and ViciousXUSMC. This year we are also giving $50 Steam cash to our active developers - dopefish, HaYDeN, and helifax. And finally, I am giving a $50 Steam card to PC Gaming Wiki Moderator Garrett, who is very active here and contributes tons of content and ideas to the WSGF.

This has been a great year for the WSGF - particularly due to stand sales. We are very happy to give back to the dedicated volunteers who help keep this place running. In 2014 we will be doing more game give aways to the community as well.

Update - I realized after the fact that I hadn't purchased a card for Garrett. And, I realized that I needed to include Nox Deleo, who has taken over updating of the Master Monitor List. With those two cards, it brings our total give away to $1000.

As many users are aware the WSGF helped to Kickstart the Oculus Rift and received a dev kit. Since I didn't have time to play with the kit, I decided to pass it around local users here in the Houston area. Three of those members - Zencyde, TheDestroyer and Peanut - were interviewed by CultureMass about their experience with the Oculus Rift and their viewpoint immersion, virtual reality and motion input.

I haven't done anything like this before, but I wanted to reach out to the community for a unique way to help the WSGF. I have a couple of projects that I am working on (such as the WSGF Steam Box, which could use some funding help. Rather than beg for money, I thought I would open up an opportunity where you could get real tangible goods for your contributions.

To that end I am asking if you would take a look at the list of items I have recently put up on eBay. Some are directly related to PC gaming, such as my Logitech G27 racing wheel. Items such as my Xbox 360 (huge lot of stuff), PS3 and OUYA are being sold to directly fund the WSGF Steam Box project. Others are items I've used or reviewed on the WSGF, such as my Peerless wall mount, or my Ergotron laptop desk stand. Finally items such as my 3rd Gen iPad and Canon T2i DSLR kit (and a few other bits) are simply just good tech gear.
