Hi, I am wondering if the following is possible:

I want to be able to play a game on two-screen eyefinity, but with one screen being the "center" and the other screen being the "side" monitor.

For example, a three screen eyefinity system looks like this

/---.

I want the two-screen system to look like a three screen system, but with one of the side screens off, IE

Heres an Idea,
do your screens have 2 inputs
you could try connecting 1 screen using both of them and try to fool eyefinity into thinking you have 3 separate monitors

Heh, you must be playing a Nascar sim.

I like Davros' suggestion. Althugh it's ineffiecent, I think it's the only way to achieve what you want.

If you mention what software you are trying to run you might have more options depending on the app. Specifically, if you are using a game that isn't first-person, you might be able to move the hud over to a single screen.

I know there is a HL2 mod that adds Wiimote compatibility and allows the reticle to move independently of view. You can customize the HUD in HL2 as well so that game might support what you are looking for.

But something tells me you are not trying to play HL2...

Yep, the headless adapter method would be another. headless adapters were typically used for CUDA Folding at Home systems to enabled a card for folding without a display. It basicly involves taking a DVI-to-vga passive adapter and resistor jumpering a few pin-outs. This tricks the computer into thinking a display is there when it's merely a jumpered adapter.

Curious.. So would your graphics card still be rendering everything for that "third display"?
I'd assume so..

When I only had two screens I really wanted to stack them just so I could see high up in FPS games to catch those snipers easier but I couldn't figure it out.. Apparently I wasn't smart enough to come here and investigate at the time, ha.

I do have three screens now but I'm still curious.. Wish I knew this back then. :(
