Crysis Warhead- works in TH2Go

Post by Mach1.9pants »

Crysis Warhead, as Crysis itself is native TH support. However (like Crysis itself) it only seems to work in TH in DX9 mode...I forced it in the command line to DX9...5040 then selectable.

Still got the stretched dot in the reflex sight and the HUD where you have to really look to see...at the edges!

:) much more NK killing fun..more explosions..more vehicles...more fun than the original (IMO so far!)

So by that do you mean that ALL triplehead modes need to be in DX9 to work, or just 3x1680x1050?

'cos, well I don't care about you triple wide guys :P

Standalone. I downloaded off of Steam for $29.95 USD.

Although, I have heard that installing Warhead somehow patches Crysis. I can't confirm since I don't have Crysis installed anymore.

Runs better than Crysis.

BTW - I *can* run 3840x1024 in DX10 without a problem.

Issue though for me (whether DX9 or DX10) is quality of lighting. In order to get acceptable FPS in 3840x1024, I have to set Shader Quality to Mainstream and then most of the others I can keep on Gamer Quality. IMHO, Shader Q at Mainstream is a NOTICABLE step down from the two higher levels. If I put Shader Q at Enthusiast or even Gamer, I'm quickly in the mid-teens for FPS which, for me at least, is not enjoyable.

If I run at 1600x1200 on my center monitor only, I can put everything at Enthusiast Quality... and man.... it looks nice and it rarely dips into the mid-high 20's.

I did have one weird thing happen though. When messing with settings, I was at the first bridge you cross in the first level. With all settings at Gamer Q, I was running in 3840x1024 standing on the bridge and getting about 18FPS. I then saved the game, and then resumed, and my FPS was suddenly in the mid-30's. It stayed that way for about 8 seconds or so while I was looking around.... and then suddenly it went back to 18. Save the game again... and the cycle repeats.

I had not changed the game settings.... just saved the game.

Bummer is that clearly the hardware has the power to push the pixels at those settings.... but must be some memory/drive issue.

Dunno.... :(

Kay, one of my GTXs was RMA'd so I am running normal SLI ATM:
No AA or AF
No motion blur; I hate it!
Levels of settings: Enthusiast-Gamer-Mainstream-Minimum
Note: I guess 'Enthusiast' is equal to Very High in Crysis, though it is available in DX9

@1920x1200: all Enthusiast: 40 to 50 FPS
@5040x1050: all Gamer apart from Shaders to Mainstream and Objects to Enthusiast. 30FPS, no dips below 28 but not only goes up inside... 50 ish

I reckon I could probably tweak the settings more in TH. And I will when the Tweakguide come sout!

But I tell you at the start when you come across a burning village, then sun 'god-rays' etc it is beautiful...especially all enthusiast when I was using 1920x1200 :)

I dunno. DRM does not bother me that much. Yes... its a PITA.... and yes.... probably doesnt do much to stop hard core pirating..... but it also doesnt interfere with my life all that much in the grand scheme of things....

I'm more concerned about the financial market melt-down...

Me too!

However I purchased it with steam, and (although it has the same install thing) I have all my (80? or so) steam games on one disk and just run it straight from that disk- I don't install it. So hopefully that'll mean I won't have to worry about the installs

I like the sound of that !
Where I ordered mine they ran out of stock so I haven't had mine ... I might get it on Steam ... which leads me on to ...

... could you explane exactly how you do this ?
If you reinstall the OS how do you tell Steam where the games are and how to run if they are not "installed" as such ... if you get my meaning.

Thanks bud !

Is there some file I can edit or command line option I can do? I don't see 3840x1024 in the dropdown when changing my resolution inside the game.

Thanks bud ! I do this as well. If you have a copy of the entire Steam folder, just open it up in your new OS and run Steam (from the folder) and it should see everything there.

Exactly that. There is a steam exe file in your steam folder run that and your off. In vista the first time it runs steam installs a service but in XP - nada.

If you are running Vista just go into:
>Games
>Right Click on Warhead
>Select:Customise
>Select a play command (you can make another one or just edit the one in use)
>Add "-DX9 +r_width 3840 +r_height 1024" without the quotes to the target line. You can try it in DX10 mode by not typing in '-DX9' but I dunno if it works.

Edit: In XP you can just add the above to your shortcut properties! Without the DX9 bit, obviously ;)

I'm able to select 3840x1024 from the in-game menu running in DX10 mode (confirmed by FRAPS). Oddly, the resolution dropdown ingame is a bit funky. Mousewheeling will not work, but if you find the obscure slider on the side of the window, you can drag down to the 3840x1024 selection.

Hey Mach,

I think I found a happy median between lighting quality and TH resolution: 3072x768.

I had never tried that res before.... but running in DX10 with all settings to GAMER but Shader Quality at ENTHUSIAST, I am not dropping below the mid-20's with multiple enemies on screen.

Running through heavy brush with lots of daytime lighting gives me high 40's-low 50's!

Gotta say... it is a very nice compromise between picture quality and the feeling of immersion that three screens give.

Curious what you (or anyone) thinks after trying it.....
