Sweet. I have this game, but never played it. It always looked like fun. Will have to do so now. Can you provide a 16:10 screenshot? Also, a Detailed Report would be great.

I only have three 5:4 monitors atm, so SG reports are all I can do. :(

I definitely recommend playing this game, it's got great graphics and sound with lots of funny details, and though it might feel confusing at first ("is it a RTS or a Tycoon game ? How to take care of an entire base with so few micro-management ?" etc.) I got totally hooked up in no time, enjoyed it from start to end and know I'll have to complete it again soon.

The official Evil Genius site/forum/Wiki and the awesome FAQ by Saint over at Gamefaqs were of great help, too. :)

That's some massive HUD stretch - though still totally worth it by the looks of things. I might even have to give that game a go someday. Thanks.

Is the larger cursor part of the HUD stretch?

If you have an NV card, you can easily set up a custom ratio of 1280x800. You can then do a comparison of 1024x768 and 1280x800.

Will do then :)

Tyinsar, that BIG cursor is a mystery to me. Cursors/crosshairs tend to behave so differently from game to game in SG resolutions... :?

Nah, I'd be only too happy to be able to do detailed reports. No luck with 1280x800 though, it stretches no matter what :cry:

Very weird that it will do multiples of 4:3 and 5:4, but won't do widescreen.

1280x800 won't work, but I could create 1280x720 and 1280x768. I'm now working on the detailed report...

My first report. I know 1280x768 is not quite 16:10 but this was done with custom res on a 5:4 monitor, so please contribute & post your screenshots (base view, world domination map, FMVs...) !

==Game Information==

(c) 2004 Elixir Studio / VU Games
Evil Genius is a tongue-in-cheek take on the 60's spy thriller genre offering the player the chance to play the villain himself and control a secret island fortress complete with powerful henchmen, loyal minions and a wide range of hilarious gizmos, gadgets and traps.

==Singleplayer anomalies==

None found.

==Multiplayer support==

No multiplayer.

==Aspect ratio support==

16:9 and 16:10, need proper screenies though.
(Since this 'hacked' method gives Hor+ and HUD stretch, all aspect ratios are 'supported')

==HUD stretch==

All 2D elements of the HUD stretch.

==Cut-scenes==

Stretched FMVs.

For some reason the cursor is much bigger than normal at that res :shock:
PowerDesk-SE's Bezel Management hotkey NOT functional in game.

Thanks alot for this, i used to accept the stretch because it wasn't that noticable, and i preffered it over having to run it with sidebars.

Thanks from one addict!......

Just bought the version sold on Good Old Games and was saddened that it only goes up to 1600x1200 through the in-game options. Luckily, the res hack worked great for me and the game seems to be running fine at 1920x1080. Yay.

Evil Genius on Steam in widescreen

Post by fw190a8 »

I just wanted to let you know that I have tried the Steam version of Evil Genius at 1440x900 using the Racer_S mod mentioned at http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/Evil_Genius and, despite this page being a wiki, I can't seem to find a way of editing it. Here's hoping someone will do it for me! Thanks.

Yep, Wiki edition is reserved to WSGF Insiders. I've updated the Version and Known Issues sections. Hope you like it ;) and thanks for your input !

Sorry, I didn't realise this at the time, but it has become clear to me when playing, that if using the Racer_S mod with a 1440x900 resolution, and ALT+TABbing out of the game, on switching back to the game, it will crash every time without fail. This is on Windows 7 using the Steam version of the game, if it makes any difference.

I can't seem to find any link to the version 2 of the resolution changer? On the Evil Genius page or anywhere else for that matter. My mind boggles.

Also - What on earth is up with the humongous letters a few posts up?
