I've never seen 'cheesy' box art from eVGA... all the others still do it. Gigabyte, Asus, XFX and BFG are the worst IMO...

I guess I just haven't purchased from the other guys in a while.

Well...there goes a crapload of money. And now I need a new power supply. Thanks BHawthorne!
Is anyone else thankful that respectable graphics card makers are cutting out the cheesy 3D box art? I sure am.
Now if EVGA would only release that PSU they've had under wraps going on a year now.
My computer is itching for it to have 3 480s Tri-SLIed and one 470 for PhysX, but then my pocketbook would go into seizures and die from the trauma.

Cool, but no way I'll be able to get up to Bolton for that. :( Ben, can you give us the highlights? (Post fact...) :)

I'm wondering if those screens are larger than 1080p? Doubtful.

Cheers Ben. :) £300 for a 470 isn't too bad I suppose, but I need to check more reviews for a more solid idea of whether it's worth it. :)
Re: New details about the GF100 Series
Hi Guys
I have been down and seen what all the fuss is about, the Nvidia 480GTX card is awesome in performance and I want one (or two) ! Asked the Nvidia guy if I could borrow one till Monday...he laughed :(
I explained that the guys on WSGF were wanting an update on the multi screen and he says regrettably they didnt have the chance to put a Multi Screen setup together but it will be shown off at our next event :D
Anyway Nvidia put a great presentation on that started out with some clips of the games they have running here on our systems with the 480GTX cards, they explained the full DX11 features and showed off through presentations and demo programs the power of the cards and what they are capable of by reducing the demo to wireframe and dropping the polygon count to what a current DX10 card is capable of and then moving the slider all the way to the top to show what the 480 can do and the polygons practically filled the screen :o
They showed off the new cards PhysX capabilities with tessellation effects and demonstrated with a model of a womans head with the hair moving and reacting to any movement like it was real
They have demonstrated the advanced water effects and detail of the scenes the new cards can render ( you really have to see it to appreciate it !)
Surround gaming was mentioned and in one of the videos one of the gamers was using 3 screens, PhysX and 3D
You guys really should have come here to appreciate it all I was very impressed and working in Systems Support with all our high end gaming systems it takes a lot to impress me !
The Sli performance of these cards is incredible, 80% - 100%+ with adding a second card
The Tessellation and Physx makes this card a really impressive package, there are a lot of people that say these cards run far too hot, we have had these systems downstairs running all last night and all day so far they are all going strong with no issues, with the amount of calculations and PhysX these cards have to produce they are bound to get a bit hot
So far they are running the following games
Just Cause 2 - 1 x 480GTX DirectX 11 all Max settings
Metro 2033 - 2 x 480GTX DirectX 11 all Max Settings
The Crazy Sled Demo ! - Prize for the best time is a GTX480 card which will be presented on Monday to the winner !
I think Battlefield Bad Company 2 is going to be on after as well but no info on that yet !

Re: New details about the GF100 Series
Looking at the results I get from google products the UK is getting ripped off again, cheapest ASUS GTX 480 in the US is $530, another is $550, cheapest in the UK is £450.
If we convert $550 to GBP we get £370 atm.
So the UK is paying £80 more then the US, thats $120.

Re: New details about the GF100 Series
The Gainward one is the best price and all the GTX480s are the same speed and spec
Check out the comparisonhttp://www.scan.co.uk/Shop/Computer-Hardware/All/GPU-NVIDIA/NVIDIA-Geforce-GTX480-PCI-E-%28480-Cores%29
Tick all boxes on Left of each card and click compare :D
Remember these are Pre order we dont physically have stock till next week :D
Cheers

Re: New details about the GF100 Series
Always happens skid - it's the Rip Off Britain effect.
When the Sterling was strong, we had high prices because "the pound is too strong for importers" now the Sterling is weak as anything, it's because "the pound is weak and the exchange rate isn't good..."
I'm looking at prices... (rounded up to nearest fiver) (cheapest I can find)
5850: £220
GTX470: £300
5870: either £270 or £310, dependent on whether you think Amazon are lying or not about their £267 Sapphire 5870
GTX480: £430
So the GTX480 beats a 5870 by... usually around 10-15% on average. But (let's use the £310 figure and work on the idea that the £267 card doesn't exist...) it's a £120 jump, or 39% increase in price over the 5870 for that 10-15% boost. From lots of reviews, the GTX470 basically trades blows with the 5850, while being 36% more. Now, nVidia cards have always been more expensive than ATi in the UK, and at the high end the performance differences don't usually equate well to price jumps. But heat and power draw... if you buy 480SLI, you need to budget for your electricity bill jumping too. :|
I just can't see why MSI want to charge £505 for a card that is, essentially, 100% identical to the Gainward. Which is £75 cheaper.

Re: New details about the GF100 Series
True enough, but even that works out £60 more expensive then Asus US offering. The UK in general just gets ripped off when it comes to electronics, graphics cards have always been that way, CPUs aren't so bad anymore, i7 920 = $280(£188) in the US and £210($312) in the UK.
Edit: I don't need to worry about how much my electricity bill is, its a fixed price based upon the size of my apartment in this development. So the more power I burn the more money I save, lol which isn't a good mindset for a greener planet.
Edit Edit: In fact if tomshardware is anything to go by, my current pair of GTX 295s use more power then the GTX 480 anyway.

Re: New details about the GF100 Series
Well, obviously if you're going from dual dual-GPU cards to a single then power usage will drop... but my power draw would increase (by only a few watts, but still) from the 4870X2 I'm using now... for going to a single GPU. And the 4870X2 was a well known power-sucker.
If you get cheap power, or subsidised power, then that isn't a consideration. But I don't fancy my power bill going up any high than it already is. ;)
...
UK is ripped off for everything, ultimately. Even stuff that was made in England I could get cheaper via a friend in Germany until recently when the Sterling took a nosedive. Electronics are often the worst offender, but not always.
