Well... i did some searching to adjust my fan speed.

There is no tool available to set youre own fan speed, i found this solution.

................................................................................

1. Open Catalyst Control Center
2. Go to ATi Overdrive and enable it, then apply
3. Then to Profiles Manager in Profiles
4. Enter Fanfix as name of profile, then select ATI overdrive in Compostion
5. Select Desktop Shortcut in Activation
6. Save and Close
7. Open Fanfix.xml in

XP: C:Documents and Settings[Username]Local SettingsApplication DataATIACE
Vista: C:Users[Username]AppDataLocalATIACE

8. Change Automatic to Manual under “FanSpeedAlgorithm_0?, then change “FanSpeedPercentTarget_0? to the speed you want
9. Run the desktop shortcut and done ;)

You can do for different speeds just make new profiles, and then you can drag the desktop shortcut to startup folder in startmenu to get it to automaticly load on startup.

................................................................................

It works for me. I did set my fanspeed at 40 and did a simple adjus of my GPU and Memory. The went from 750/900 to 790/1100MHz.
That is a little performance upgrade. If you want to go any further you will have to wait for the new rivatuner or ati tool (i think).

Here is what i did...

I made 2 profiles. One is the OC profile and the other is Standard. Before gaming i dubble click the OC profile and it is ready to go. (It gives me with 3dMark06 around 400 points extra) If i am done gaming, just clicking Standard... and all values are back to normal.

Cheers!

Nice work, BlackHat. I'm not an ATI user, but HWMonitor is going straight into my toolbox :).

All that fan tweak talk and no mention of the before/after load temps for gaming? Come on BlackHat, give us some details.

I use 30% as I think it's slightly easier on the ears, and it's gone from about 85C down to 65C load. This way you don't need to keep changing profiles either as it's quiet enough to deal with when not gaming.

Extremely useful! :D Note that it works with other ATI cards also.

I have a profile for fanfix and another for silence. The fanfix profile I'm also using a tweak in the clock/voltage target as well (hate powerplay function). Easy to switch between. :)

Youre right... but it was allready late :? 01:30 hour. So... the temps and all other info are coming after this weekend.

The FanSpeed was really an issue with the new ati cards. I think this is a good solution for now and (maybe) in the future.

It is a fact... the new rivatuner is out! It is version 2.10.

The GT200 line is supported and the RV770 is also supported. Just have to check it out.

My 4870 dropped about 15 degrees when I moved the fan speed from the default 22% to 40% as well. But it sounds like Rivatuner can handle this without file tweaking now?

Yes... that is correct. RivaTuner supports now the HD48** series.
