You can't do 5040 at 60Hz only 57, it is a limit of the DVI cable (apparently!). If you are at 5040 just stick with it.

Problem is the following: monitors report much less than standing in settings, e.g. if there's in driver settings 57Hz in fact it is something like 55Hz which is much too low for normal monitors. If you put 60Hz it will do something like 57,8 Hz, which is o.k..
BUT: idiotic screen test will you not do so, I my case it is like that: despite everything works fine, it reports test not o.k. and returns back in lower mode. That was the reason why I asked somebody to supply a hack because the task would only to be to cheat the foolish " test not o.k.", then it would work fine!

OK, have you tried ctrl-alt-deleting out of the test failed? Someone had this in Win7 and that worked.
But yeah the BETA should get around the out of range error, so I don't know why your rig won't work.

However the (TNT)BW got his working using the BETA so there is no point for him to muck around with anything!

Please be a bit more precise: "ctrl-alt-deleting" and then? stopping any task? But then config is not written...
(TNT)BW can be used for 60Hz setting?? How?

OK, I dunno to be honest, someone (somewhere.....) in one of the many 5040 threads posted that he could kill the NVdia test resolution failed pop up and get the 5040 to work. That seemed reasonable to me because when that error message popped up for me the screen was actually at 5040 and it was only when I hit OK (rather than killing the pop up) that the res dropped back to the lower res. I thought maybe you could give it a go.

As for the second bit (TNT)BW is a forum user name; you posted:
[quote]I'm running Vista 32 ,Nvidia GTX260 and 182.08 driver, and the beta GXM did the trick for my system to get 5040x1050@57hz, thanks alot. 8)

But 57Hz is sh..., how about 60Hz?? Did you try it?
So I was saying why should he want to try 60Hz when he has 5040 @ 57Hz working fine? AFAIK trying to get 60HZ at 5040 working is a dead end. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry, but after half a year (!) trying in vaine with hundrets of different hints I would like to wait for someone who is sure.
Thanks anyway.

Driver sweeper + 182.50 + beta GXM = success ! :D
Setup was a no-brainer, the setup wizard took care of everything. Finally, my Vista64 can show off in both 2560x1600 and 5040x1050. No more booting in XP to enjoy TripleHead. I'm happy !

Please be a bit more detailed: at which frequency does it run at your system?
Where can I get driver sweeper?
Thank you!!

No details = no need for details ;) It was as straightforward as any software install should be.

- Driver Sweeper can be found on guru3d.com. I'm not even sure it's required, but I figured starting off a clean base couldn't hurt. I hadn't bothered in my previous failed attempt with some older 180 driver btw.
- 5040x1050 runs at 57 Hz, and is present in GXM's list. I didn't have to create a custom res or care about the refresh rate at all, the Wizard that used to fail in the past finally did the job 8)

Finally got 5040 working on Vista 32bit, with 8800GTS,
Tried (with both the BETA and 2.4.0.11 standard GXM):

Latest nvidia driver 185.85 (no go at all 5040 would not so up nor allow me to create a custom resolution).
182.50 (5040 showed up but gave "out of range" on monitors, managed to get custom resolution working but couldn't clear the test failed message).
Only worked for me with the 180.48 drivers and the custom display setup detailed earlier.

From my experience the nvidia drivers where the problem. They each behaved quite differently. I am not that happy about having to be locked to specific (older) drivers but for the time being I am just happy to have it working. Will keep posted if I get any other drivers to work. Thanks to everyone who posted for all your help!!!! Now for some gaming :D

I have the 182.08's running fine, but the new 185.85's won't let me create any custom resolutions (and pass). Getting really tired of not being able to use the new driver sets.

I'm pretty sure that the custom resolutions need to be saved somewhere in the .inf file. If I can figure that out, I would love to paste that info into the new .inf files. Anyone have any ideas on modifying the .inf files manually?

I am currently using 182.50 Vista 64 with success. I can confirm the current WHQL drivers 185.85 have the custom resolution problem where you can't create 5040x1050 as a valid resolution.

Latest WHQL, 186.18 (Vista64, GTX 285) don't seem to work. Beta GXM's Wizard reports the same old "Windows Error" upon applying the resolution. I have not tried toying with custom res's as it never helped on my system. Back to 182.50...

I'm using the beta GXM and I still get the out of range error. I'm using 3 CMV221D's with a GTX 295 on Windows 7. Currently using 181.71 drivers. I'm able to select 5040x1050 and I get the out of range error. I've tried 182.50 but at the highest resolution I can go (4320x900) the aero effects wouldn't work for some reason and 7 looks like ass without it. Anyway, I would have dealt with opaque borders around my windows, but I got the out of range error with those as well. Tried the 190.15 beta drivers and I couldn't select 5040... Everything worked fine on XP.

I'm out of ideas.

I emailed matrox and got this response. My current video card is GTX 285 in SLI and Matrox Triplehead2go Digital Edition. I would like to be able to use a never video driver, but this works and 190 series drivers did not.

Matrox Response:

Please try the following steps.

1. Uninstall PowerDesk software

2. Uninstall NVIDIA driver

3. Reboot

4. Install this driver from NVIDIA http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_182.50_whql.html

5. Reboot when driver installation is done.

6. Detach the attached file and rename it to NVIDIA 200series and TripleWide.zip (I believe this is the current version listed on page 1 of this post)

7. Unzip it and then run Setup.exe to install a special version of PowerDesk.

8. Follow the Setup Wizard when PowerDesk installation is done.

Does anyone know if the new Nvidia 190.62 drivers have the same old problems with 5040x1050?

I can't speak specifically to the 190.62's, but I'm running the 190.56's with the latest Matrox drivers and it's working fine.

For Windows 7 x64, I found that the 181.71 drivers work with the beta posted in post #1.

Yep, nvidia 181.71 and the GXm 2.4.0.11 Beta is the only combination for me to get all resolutions within Win 7-64bit Home premium Family Pack.

I would like to see that people using this board tel there operating system as well. makes it much easier :D
