I have given Emanuelle the link to this thread again. So hopefully he will read it and see that it is a) not just my problem and b) not a NV problem

Does it matter? the WHQL versions aren't exactly stable or bug free. I even have to un-WHQL em just to install em on my laptop since they rarely bother to add mobile variants of the same chipsets.

Nope doesn't matter at all, won't kill the PC. I am bored of uninstalling, driver cleaning the forceware and GXM then installing new versions, finding they won't do 5040 (hurry up with a working GXM Matrox!) then uninstalling and driver cleaning etc then reinstalling etc.......

But this MM set up is tempting!

What's the GXM's purpose anyways? just to pre-edit some games so they support TH or something more?

The GXM has the gxm.inf driver for the TH2Go, it works in some res without the driver but for 5040 it needs the GXM driver.

It also does such things as maximise open windows within a screen rather than over the whole display, makes programs open up in the screen they closed down in (and other such things) and also runs the bezel management.

Just a shot in the dark here but:

As far as I know a monitor driver is only 1 .inf file so maybe you could copy the .inf from a known working res. gxm install.

Uninstall that version. Install latest version of GXM with latest known working video drivers and use the .inf copied instead of one included with latest GXM?

yeah I tried. The new inf file gives me the 'out of range error' what ever driver when I select 5040. The old one just won't let you select 5040.

Maybe you could contact the person behind those omegadrive ati drivers, a wizard at modding .infs for drivers from what I've seen, maybe could tell what/why those don't fully work.

And with the new BETA big bang 2 (which doesn't have multi monitor support but big frame rate improvements) exactly the same.
Normal GXM won't do 5040; the new trial GXM will but gives out of range error

Matrox has offered me remote control so I will be up at stupid hours sometime soon (NZ/Canada time dif) and see how it goes

They offered me remote control too and I'm not about to let them! Thanks for your efforts though...sounds like you're the only one actively 'bothering' them into doing something, which isn't impetus they should require to get on with it. All they need do is invest $1k in hardware and the problems would become immediately apparent to them.

Yeah they were on for about 4 hours last time I did it (from 1am to 5am +++YAWN++) when the firmware update to put the single screen in the centre porked my unit.

But this should get it sorted and we really need it to work ith the latest drivers, they offer a significant increase in many games
