It would APPEAR to me that you need to follow directions similar to what is posted in post #2.

This game is weird in how it handles this stuff......

So I decided I would try to create an sgsm5.cfg in the main NHL 08 directory AND within fmisc.viv, with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 to see what would happen. I change the registry entry to '5' so it would point to that file. You CAN'T go into the video settings in the game, or it will default back to 800 x 600.

Anyway, it recognizes the new file I created, but here is how it recognizes it:

Notice it puts the actual gameplay in the small window in the top left, but the overlays are still exactly where they should be.

I feel like if there was someone out there who could go even deeper into this stuff than what I think I'm capable of, all resolutions could work. I just think it's strange that if you put 1920 x 1200 into sgsm4 it cuts off the right side of the screen, but if you make new file, it does this.

Weird.....

That's how mine was at 1440 x 900 as well... game in the upper left, overlays in the right spot.

Hi,
i´ve dont tried your solution now but i have an other question.
After Installing NHL 08 i wanted to change the resolution but there is no other choice than 800x600. Did anyone have this problem and could you tell me if this Tip will Fix it.

Sorry, forget the question. I saw a post with the solution to install the latest radeon drivers, i havent done this now.
But thx for the widescreen tip ill try that.

Thx in advance

There is a hack called wide08. I used it to get the resolution to 16000x1000 if I try 1680 x 1050 the game crashes. Great if u dont wanna hack conf files.

I think that we can re-open the topic now that NHL 09 is out! I'm still playing 08...but I am having problems having good results with the method posted here!

Look at these two screenshots...the first one was taken with the typical 1280x1024 resolution.

The second one was taken with the modified config files at 1680x1050! As you can see, it only strectches the whole thing! I can't see further on each sides....and the players look fat!

Can anybody post a screenshot to prove that they get widescreen without stretching?
