Hey guys ...
There is a retail v1.01 patch out ...

http://www.3dgamers.com/games/rainbowsix5/downloads/

http://www.gamershell.com/news/35001.html

Rainbow Six Vegas by Ubi Soft Montreal - retail v1.01 patch

Changes in v1.01:

- Supports the Xbox 360 controller
- Various rare single player ingame crashes have been fixed
- Better support the use of alt-tab while in game
- Reduced the memory consumption of the game
- Multiplayer difficulty level is now accurate and can be selected accordingly
- Player will now get a kill attributed to his kill list when defender or terrorist dies of damage over time ( incendiary grenade )
- Improved quick search and custom search utility for all game modes
- Improve the chat system to ensure chat box is not always visible
- Enabled changing display resolution of the game
- Corrected some localisation issues to display correct message in correct language for various menus
- Display navigational information correctly while in observer mode
- Corrected some menu interface display error
- Respawning while in chat menu will not cause chat window to overlap the game window

I wonder what the bold bit is all about ... does it mean widescreen ? and if not ... does madmos5y's .bin files still work ... anyone ?

Means nothing, options are still exactly the same, ie they dont exist.

patched *.bin files still work perfectly fine.

I downloaded the rar file, extracted the one that applied to my screen, 1400-900
renamed the file to R6GameConfig.bin overwrote the old file, and my resolution is still the same......Any ideas what I couldve done wrong?

I also have the latest patch

Madmos, thanks! I'll test it out later.

co, is your active desktop resolution set to 1440x900 by default? Or do you have it set to something else? The resolutions (both in-game and out) must be the same, I believe. Also, do NOT delete your original config, in case you run into problems - like you are at right now.

Personally, I would recommend reinstalling the game fresh, patch it, and check to see if your resolution is already in there. If not, you can try the file on these forums again, this time making sure to backup that file first.

madmos5y, can you please explain (even just briefly) how you are modifying these bin files? I'm looking to learn as much as possible about the UE3 engine and one of the problems I'm having is that I can't make any sense of these bin files.. I figured it must just be a requirement to have the UnrealEd associated with the packages.. but apparently you've found a way around this?

This is the only UE3 game ive seen so far that uses binary files for its configuration settings its something UBisoft have done themselfs. Other games like Roboblitz use conventional text config files so there dead easy to change.

It basically involves altering two hex numbers in the bin file, those numbers represent the "hex" value of the display resolutions vertical and horizontal sizes.

PS: When using one of these modified bin files, do not attempt to alter the resolution in-game as it will reset the display screen sizes. Ignore any value displayed in the options, its WRONG. If you start the game and press "print screen" fire up any paint program and paste you can verify the resolution is correct.

The title screen is not a good example as the title sequence is a low resolution movie file so always appears blocky.

Can you possibly make a resolution of 1400x1050? My 20.1" is at that res, and laptops seem to use that res alot..

Thanks in advance,

well the part that is confusing me is how '20 03' translates into 1280x800
or how '00 04' translated into 1280x1024
the fact that both digits are different when one of the resolution components is similar says to me that its a combination of the settings that matters.. and at that point i dont understand how it works.. are you just guessing and checking?
