Sonic Adventure DX

Sonic Adventure DX for PC
I stumbled upon this today and I was amazed. it's a complete port of the original from the Dreamcast, BUT the Sega Team did an astounding job with the port.. it's virtually flawless. that is why I feel there should be some reasearch as to get widescreen for it.

I made a patch, but there is something wrong. You can see it.

This black bar is wrong. But how to change it? Oh, I forgot. I can't change it because the resource of the game is only in 4:3.

Should you expect a mechanic to fix your car over the phone?

Littlefighter19: An SA:DX patch would be great! I'm afraid I don't know how to fix your problem, but if you do then please share it with us!!

1440x900 (16:10) mod released

Post by Littlefighter19 »

EDIT (30th August of 2017): Hey there people from the future, before you waste your time, this thread is about SADX Retail.
The old version, not the Steam version. If you're using the Steam version, go to the last page of this thread,
where there is a link to BetterSADX, which adds lots of improvements for the Steam version of SADX.
These how ever do not work for the Retail version, in which case, you might still be interested by this thread.
However this thread only covers hex editing the exes 1280x1024 resolution to a resolution of your desire,
but in the process of doing so it creates a few issues alongside, such as the HUD not adjusting properly
to the resolution, and also problems with objects in distance simply disappearing (Z-Buffer + FOV ?).

Well, I know that there is a problem with the HUD, but I actually don't know how to correct it.
Here is the actually modded sonic file only for 16:10 (LINK removed because it's offline)
Change the resolution in the Autorun to 1280x1024
I'm going to make a patcher, as well.

Sonic Adventures DX Codes for UniPatcher

Post by Littlefighter19 »

Ok, you can simply use squ1zzy's UniPatcher. http://www.wsgf.org/article/squ1zzy-unipatcher
Just put the UniPatcher EXE in the root of the Game. Make a backup from the Game. Start UniPatcher and type in:
File Name: sonic.exe.
Position 1: 2A81
Position 2: 2A82
Position 3: 2A8B
Position 4: 2A8C
Then select the your resolution(It should be only 1440x900, but you can try others).

Screenshots

Before, your display would stretch it and it would look like this:

Scaled image from 1280x1024 to 1440x900 (as it would look like on a 1440x900 monitor)

With the "hack" it will looks like this:
(Shows 16:9 HUD on 16:10, but models look fine)
Hex edited EXE to 1440x900 (Ver-)

As you can see the HUD is missing the icons for your lives for example,
because the original resolution was higher.
Either way, you can chose other resolutions as well. (They are near the addresses as provided in the UniPatcher instructions).

The best way to use Imageshack in your posts is:

Code: Select all

<img src="direct link" alt="" />

Without the hack: (stretch ?)

With the hack: (Hor+ ?)

Can you add a 4:3 shot for comparison ?
Also, please don't start a new thread each time you have sth to add on the same subject: simply post a reply instead ;)

It doesn't work with the demo, right ? All I get is 640x480 pixels in a 1440x900 window... :?

You have to config the game to select the resolution 1280x1024.
I think it should work with the demo.

NVM. I clicked the same link twice. The 5:4 and the stretched pic have Tails in the same spot but the non-stretched one has him closer. It might just be from where the pic was taken or maybe it is Vert - behavior. The non-stretched pic is also missing the lower right HUD display but that may be something that disappears while gaming.

The picture with the lifes was dissapeared because the Hud Is larger than the hacked size, so you're right with
it is Vert - behavior.

A shame. Vert - with the 3D stuff can be fixed but it is a lot harder to fix the HUD when it gets cropped.

Can someone help me get this game running at 1600x1200? I don't get this hex stuff, and no other site on the internet talks about custom resolutions.
