Ok ... here you go ... :D
Run the game once ... then ... edit or add these lines in config.cfg for the original Call of Duty and uoconfig.cfg for United Offensive
These cfg files will be found in the Call of DutyMain folder and the Call of Dutyuo folder.
seta cg_fov "115" Set this to whaterver looks best for your widescreen resolution.
seta r_customheight "800" Set this to whatever res you want.
seta r_customwidth "1280" Set this to whatever res you want.
seta r_mode "-1"

does it works for multiplayer??
thx

I believe most multiplayer is set by the server you are playing on so that one person will not have an unfair advantage. I may be mistaken on that though.

Hi there,
i didn't exactly know where to post this question, but this thread seemed quite reasonable.
I did the patching or editing of the config file in the editor. The picture looks nice. It works fine, if I only I wouldn't get these errors in the top line of the screen like
"Actor allocation failed" whatever that means.
And whenever I die (which is of course rarely the case :-)) I get a whole load of errors that disappear too quickly to be listed here in detail....
Maybe someone had a similar experience, if not, what the hell....it works apart from these little messages...
And btw, hello to everyone since i'm new here and plan to stay while, because i assume that's not gonna be the last time i'm asking questions....

Welcome to the forum. :)
I believe the messages are the Developer mode... have you added a '-developer' switch or something to one of the commandlines?

Or am i just to lazy to browse the rest of the forum where I can find the answer to my question!!

I just tried to force COD UO in 1680 x 1050 on my dell 2005fpw after I did vid restart the game will not launch anymore. I even tried 1280 x 720 and still nothing. Is there a way to fix this in the COD config file?

Hand edit the .cfg file - instructions for that are here:
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/
If it's really messed up, delete the .cfg file, and let Call of Duty create another default one.

I posted some pics on the screenshot section showcasing the differences between fullscreen and widescreen in this game.

This solution worked perfectly for me. The menu and HUD are stretched, and it appears the FOV hack only works in Single Player, but it is still better than nothing. Thank you! :)

Is there a way to get videos to work with a custom res?
Most of the videos encoded for games are in a single format (4:3). Prerendered cutscenes and intro videos (with the exception of Unreal Tournament's) are never rendered in realtime and are therefore stretched to fit the widescreen aspect ratio. Unless companies start building games with widescreen in mind, and include 16:10, 16:9, and 4:3 versions of all prerendered videos, we'll have to deal with stretched 4:3 for a while.

It's not stretched, it just not visible, period. You can only hear the videos, you can't watch them when you are using custom resolutions. I would be happy if it was just stretched, I would like to be able to watch them.

Well for Q3 engine games, you are correct; intro videos usually don't show at all. However, for games like Republic Commando, the intro videos are stretched.
