Addendum to my previous point 3 (courtesy of Simian_ from the Steam forums): -

Open your autoexec.cfg (it's in the game folder) and add these lines:

d.consoleh = 1
r.showlogos = 0
r.fov = 95
r.aspectratio = 1.777778
c.camdist = 45

Save the file. START A NEW GAME. Your old game will probably not use these settings for some strange reason.

d.consoleh activates the developer console which you can open with the ~ key.

r.showlogos tells the game whether to skip the intro clips that show every time you start the game up.

c.camdist moves the position of the player camera back. Default is 0. The higher the value, the farther back the camera is.

r.aspectratio sets the aspect ratio. For some reason this gets overridden when you alt-tab (possibly depending on what shader version you're using), so in that case you might have to manually set this using the developer console. You can check if your aspect ratio is correct by using the flashlight and making sure the beam is circular instead of oval shaped. 1.333334 sets it to 4:3 and 1.777778 sets it to 16:9.

r.fov sets the FOV. For some reason when you start a new game, it gets set back to the default. Just open the developer console after the short introduction story about the ancient tribe is over, set it back to your desired value, and save the game. Once you do that, you shouldn't have to mess with it again.

From Badman ... for 5040x1050 I'm using (my) standard r.aspectratio - 4.666666, r.fov = 141. The AR and FOV still do reset to broken default from time to time. Simply do ~ then r.aspectratio & r.fov again.

As far as I recall, the weapons would still stretch regardless of what FOV and AR you set. Is that right?

The "...CryostasisDataScriptsdescriptionweapon.cfg" file has a good effect on weapons FOV ... not perfect, but good.

I had got this game for free when I purchased an old video card. It came as a download from nZone (which is now geforce.com). When freeing up some space I accidentally deleted the install file for this game only to find out later that it was a "one-time" only free download from nZone. :/

Now that the game is available on GOG I will likely pick it up again. I never did finish the game and I enjoyed playing it.

When I do I'll take a look at fixing this game.

All of these are floats and static. While you can set them via the in-game console, you can use these to override them permanently, and without having to enable the console.

Aspect-Ratio: cryostasis.exe+83EDEC4
Field-of-View: cryostasis.exe+83EDEBC
Camera Distance: cryostasis.exe+83EE1E8

When I get around to it I'm going to work on interface centering and effects scaling.

Outstanding. Thank you.

Are these offsets? or hex values within the .exe?

Wait, just had a look with Hexworkshop ... they're not offsets or values. What are they Dopefish?

P.S. I'm also having a look in the .exe using PE Explorer and can see some virual addresses that correspond to your hex numbers ... am I way off track?

Good gracious dopefish, you're everywhere !
I'm really excited about this. It's a pity they borked screen support so bad, this "atmospheric tech demo" is a gem.

They're memory offsets. Use Cheat Engine or some other memory editor.

Yeah good one Badman ... modifying the .exe on the disk and not the running program. Now using CE.

Thanks again dopefish.

This is on sale on steam for $3.25 for the next day or so.

I had gotten it for free a while ago, maybe I'll pick it up again and finish it. It's quite the survival horror game.
