Is there anyway I could get a step by step guide on how to use the widescreen fixer?
As of now I set drop down bar to 3 x 16:9 ( I have 3 1920x1080 16:9 monitors) and
select Call of Duty: Black Ops MP v1.0. When I start up the game and click my hotkey
the aspect ratio changes and the game stretched across the screens. The problem is
when I go into the game's video settings I can only select up to 5040x1200, which seems
especially strange since the second number isn't even at 1080. I had this exact problem
with call of duty 4:modern warfare and am desperately looking for help or some kind of a
fix. What the hell am I doing wrong?

[quote]Widescreen Fixer supports this now:
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=202859#p202859

I'm trying this right now and I still can't go over that lower resolution, I really think I'm doing something wrong. What could be causing this? Possible fixes?

Open the config.cfg file then change the line

Code: Select all

seta r_mode "5940x1080"

to whatever your resolution is.

Widescreen Fixer doesn't alter your resolution or affect how your resolution is selected. That would be the game itself not displaying the choice of resolutions correctly.

You can set it via the config file above or, at least in MP (I haven't found a way to use the console in SP), you can use the console to set a custom resolution. Look at r_mode or r_custom*

So if I won't be able to select 6050x1080 in the game's menu, what resolution do I want it set to? And how does the widescreen fixer program know what resolution to use? or does it just triple the current resolution? (In which case I can't select 1920x1080 with surround enabled, only with it off)

If a pre-existing aspect-ratio does not exist, you can set it to Custom and then type in either an aspect-ratio or resolution in the two boxes next to it.

I'm disappointed that once again, Activision did not fix the resolution problem in the game. I have never been able to get the any of the resolution fixes to work.

Whoever does the game fixes, I really appreciate all the work but I am sure many would really appreciate it if they did a detailed step by step description of how to install it for people who are not computer experts.

In fact, I would pay someone to fix it.

Any idea why so many game manufacturers do not seem interested in supporting Eyefinity?

[quote][quote]EDIT: This question was brought up in a different forum, but how does using a fixer like this affect VAC bans in MP? Anyone have any experience with players being banned from MW2 for using the widescreen fixer?

I never got VAC'd for using it in MW2

But YMMV.

The fixer is a hack, by definition alone its a breach of the TnC of the MP, you would need to ask Activision as to if they will allow it or not, until they give an official word use it at your own risk.

Activision didn't know. I just got off the phone with them. They said contact steam which I believe steam will not give a definitive answer on it because it's a 3rd party Program. Why can't someone just have a solid yes or no answer It's so frustrating

Also remember that MW2 etc used PunkBuster (which was OK'd quasi-officially) not VAC> So this is a whole new ball game for WSF

Also cheers DopeFish :)

This is sweet and all, but what would be amazing is if you found a way to center the HUD on the center screen.

The fix works for the fov but the aiming crosshair was still stretched for me.

The graphics seem, not great. I don't get that wow factor like bad company 2.

Ah maybe I was thinking of MW1 and WaW. Anyway I have had no problems in 30 odd hours of MW2 with the WSF (I loved the game hated the lack of browser so quit)

And this is why I hate call of duty. Every game since Cod 4 has looked the exact same

Not surprise really, more an extensive map pack from MW1 on. All the same engine etc. Means anyone's rig can run it though.

Does the widescreen fixer also make it so the 2D elements aren't stretched?

EDIT: Just tried it... and answered my own question. Game looks almost flawless now (a FEW 2D blemishes, but oh well). Centered HUD, everything 2D IN GAME is now PERFECT. Mad props to dopefish yet again.

this is directly from Valve games:

Valve games

The Valve Anti-Cheat system is enabled for servers displaying the Secured shield logo. Using custom skins, sounds or maps and playing multi-player mods which do not modify core .EXE and .DLL files will not result in a VAC ban

Cheating in a Source Engine game that was released prior to Left 4 Dead will result in a VAC ban from Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Day of Defeat: Source, and Team Fortress 2.

Cheating in a Gold Source engine game will result in a VAC ban from Counter-Strike, Condition Zero, Ricochet, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress Classic, Half-Life: Deathmatch, and Deathmatch Classic
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

VAC is enabled on all multiplayer servers, public and private. Any modifications to the game other than editing config files can result in a VAC ban. Examples of such modifications include console enablers, VAC disablers, and server hosting mods.

A VAC ban in Modern Warfare 2 only affects Modern Warfare 2.

So, I found that to enable the console in SP you will have to change seta monkeytoy “1″ to seta monkeytoy “0″ in the config.cfg file, and to actually change the FOV for SP and not only "move the weapon" you will have to type ;cg_fov 80 in the console (anything from 65 to 80 will work). :)

Finally I am able to change the SP FOV for real :D But I'm wondering if there is a way to make the game store the changed FOV setting?
