I'm not sure if I'm getting the game but one of the devs said this on the game's ultrawide support:

I've also been told that the game uses an in-house engine, not Unity or Unreal Engine that we're familiar with. This would need to be confirmed though. I'll update the thread if I find out more.

EDIT: I modified the game .exe to remove the pillarboxing. See my post right here.

Hello, I've just tested on PC, no ultrawide support (21/9 3440x1440), black bars on left and right (looks like regular 16/9, no bars on top or bottom).

So dev are liars ;).

So hard to code Ultrawide ? -_- ....

Can we have a fix please guys ?

I also summarized the situation and whether the game supports other hardware here on PCGamingWiki. I did test for multimonitor support as well by changing to a custom resolution, and it was pillarboxed but seeing how the game allows you to select a screen, I wasn't sure, so it's still at "unknown" and needs proper testing by someone who actually has a triple monitor setup.

In other news, the same Saber Interactive dev said ultrawide support is planned. Let's hope it's not vert-

Hi I am Survival Junkie on the discord. I have both an Ulta Wide(Z35P) and also 3 Hp 23es monitors. What do you need tested with a triple monitor config? I might be able to try it for you.

For the wiki and general awareness, we need to know whether the game is pillarboxed for multimonitor users. You can also check whether the cutscenes are windowboxed by starting any campaign. You can take a screenshot / photo of the outcome too but that's not necessary.

I can 100% verify that on Nvidia Surround @ 5760x1080 : 3x 1080p the game is pill boxed and the Left and Right screen have black overlays. Also I can verify that the FOV is low but not as an error it is the same as 1080p and just needs a slider so it is better aka 100 - 120ish. The game owns I really love it if they can add Ultra Wide and multi screen that be insane as well a FOV slider.

Here are some screens:

Also the game supports DX11 and Vulkan API, both work great and run super fast as well as the game looks real nice.

Here is the EXE I renamed them to wwzRetailEgs.zip_004.zip the original name is wwzRetailEgs.zip.004 so the file extension is .001 - .004 they are just a group of zip files. To get them to work just rename them back.

Ok, so I have figured out a way to get stretched image until we get patch from devs.
Im running a 3440x1440 monitor, and here is what I did:
1. go to C:\Users\(((your user name)))\AppData\Local\Saber\WWZ\client\storage
2. open video.dat with notepad.
3. Change to "WindowSizeX": 2560 and "OutputSizeX": 2560 instead of 3440 , and save.
4. In nvidia panel I go to desktop size and position (mine is in Swedish so I translated)
5. Scaling: Fullscreen , save.
6. Run game, should be in 2560x1440 , stretched.

Lets hope we get patch sooner than later from devs. They have it on the "to-do-list" apperantly.

I've had the game since its release but I avoided playing it or trying anything, hoping for the devs to release an update. It's only today that I decided to disassemble the exe and look into it. Took me about 5 to 10 minutes to remove the pillarboxing.

Download the modified exe here, put it in WorldWarZ\en_us\client\bin\pc\ and overwrite.

Alternatively, try out this patcher that should work with every version:

Temped to try it though, but I am a little worried that this might get you banned or something, even though I have no idea what kind of anti cheat WWZ has (if any).

Thanks for this, but could you explain the method you used to do it ?
As there is already a new version 1.01 with some fixes, and it won't be the last patch

acecel, as far as I know, version 1.01 was the launch version. There's no universal way of achieving ultrawide support across different engines.

Evil_Raven, you don't need to upload the .exe anymore. I have had the game since its release. I also updated the comment shortly after the "1.02" hotfix came out. Thank you for the gorgeous screenshots though!

I have some news from Discord as well, now that I'm finally able to post here without getting timed out:

Thank you so much Man, works perfectly! Awesome stuff, now if they could only add a FOV slider then the game would be perfect :rockout:

Makes no sense why the team locked it on purpose seems insane like usual, anyways massive thanks Rose  really appreciate it!

[ Update ] I also updated the game to the April 20 hotfix and the new fix works perfectly as well, so 100% do that if you have the game they fixed a bunch of stuff in the patch don't use the old build.

About the FOV there is a fix posted on this page by l0wb1t

http://fearlessrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9243

I created a table with only this script and uploaded it, in case you find it easier (you need to install Cheat Engine 6.x first)
https://www.mediafire.com/file/0zirrb3p ... od.ct/file

Like i said i didn't write this script l0wb1t did, so thanks him if you want to, not me.

Thanks. It works online as well, although it might become bannable if the devs decide to start cracking down on the abundance of people that use other hacks to gain an unfair advantage. Keith of PCGamingWiki also uploaded the CT there.

I can confirm online mode is not connecting anymore after modifying latest executable with your patcher.
Widescreen without black bars works fine though, but only offline:(

wwzRetailEgs.exe file version: 0.1.0.13120
md5 prior patch: 0A669A62FFFC13CDEBAF97A0EED23DF0
md5 after patch: 71A6BBFA148E53BA6B6CCE0D0ECB60F8

**edit**
found the issue
Never launch the exe directly, always start the game via Epic Launcher, then you'll be fine & online even with latest uws pached one :rockout:

Cheers,
Nord

In my experience (also from Metro Exodus) you will indeed have to launch the game through the Epic Launcher, but only once after every patch. After that one time, I can successfully launch the game through the .exe (this was for Metro Exodus though, I always use the shortcut that got placed on my desktop for WWZ, not the .exe directly).

An FOV slider is in the works:

"Other major upgrades in development for further free updates include a wave-based survival mode, private lobbies, the ability to switch classes during PvPvZ matches, field of view (FOV) and level of detail sliders on PC, and more. Stay tuned to learn more about our upcoming updates!"

Amazing news hey! Once they add the FOV slider and with your fix the game will be perfect and also the private servers etc that they have planed.

What a time to be alive :rockout: thanks again for your new fixes.

For some reason the game has been downgraded from 1.05 to 1.04. I'll make the 1.04 version the main one, although it was still accessible through the changelog feature of the PCGamingWiki Files.

The patcher works with both versions and hopefully will work with future versions.

The patcher gives me a different version number of the game/.exe, which results in me not being able to invite people or join people. The fixed .exe works fine.

The patcher has no effect on version numbers or any bytes apart from the few required to remove the pillarboxing.
The inability to invite friends is a common issue among the ones reported, and has nothing to do with it.

Even the devs recognize it as a game issue.

I had a different version as a friend of mine displayed in the debug info on the main menu (Properties of the .exe still showed 1.06 though). Restoring the original .exe gave me the same version as my friend, and the altered .exe as well.

Probably just a 'fluke' on my end though, as I can imagine that if the patcher really was the culprit, there would be a lot more reports here. Anyways, I can play the game just fine online in 21:9, will try the patcher again after the next update of the game/when needed.

The update is out now, and the FOV slider is included as promised.
I updated the patcher and the mod.

Rose I downloaded the updated patcher. However when I try to extract it my Windows Defender won't run the .exe because it says it has a virus. Any idea why it is doing that?

The virus it is detecting is labeled as "Program:Win32/Unwaders.A!ml

The AV software likely sees it as a file unknown to the system, so it blocks it as part of its heuristics algorithm. Anyone can add it to the list of exclusions, as we discussed on Discord.

Patcher worked flawlessly, have been enjoying the new Tokyo level in 21:9. Thanks!

Patcher doesnt work on the new version 1.21. To be honest, seeing as how the fix of Rose has been working so far, I would have thought 21:9 support would have been added in an official patch already. Rose's fix is practically flawles, and his fix was already available almost immediately after release.

I updated the exe as soon as I got the update, which was an hour ago, then updated the patcher just now.
I made it into a permanent solution, so hopefully this is the last time you'll need me to deliver.

In the future I will look into making a more permanent solution. As of now there are other games that have or likely to have no UW support that I want to look into first.

Oh, hot damn, did not even check your post with the fixes in it as I did not expect you to have them updated not even an hour after release. Thanks! Great work again! Lets hope the devs will add 21:9 support soon, but in the mean time: Thank you very much for the work!

This is a great fix! Enabled triple monitor support. Works fine in DX11 but the image is stretched across all three screens with VULKAN enabled.
