1. Install Heretic II from your CD
2. Patch it to 1.06 version http://heretics-hexens.ucoz.com/ht2_ep_v1-06.zip
3. Download & Install nGlide 0.95 from http://www.zeus-software.com/
4. Press "Start/Programs/nGlide/Configurator" Set your settings (here you can choice any screen resolution)

Another solution is install Hexen2 from CD with full installation with OpenGL (3dfx) support and use nGlide (3dfx wrapper) this have configuration tool that let you force to use any screen resolution that you want

For HeXen II you can download Hammer of Thyrion Source port.

This source port can allow you to use any Video Resolution that supports your video card and/or monitor.
You can set video resolution on fly at any time to any aspect ration resolution.

1. Install Heretic II Using your CD.
2. Patch Heretic II to 1.06 version, this can be done easily, just unzip this file to Heretic II folder.
3. To allow Heretic II use widescreen resolutions unzip this file to Heretic II folder.
4. Start Heretic II, go to Video Settings / Renderer = OpenGL32 ...

For HeXen II i like to use best source port Hammer of Thyrion http://uhexen2.sourceforge.net/
And i use OpenGL rendering (hardware) its better for me than software mode =)
I even play heretic and hexen in OpenGL
