Dota 2 Reborn - Working 21:9 HUD Fix (UPDATED)

Post by Razed »

Update June 6, 2016: Thanks to yhc1994, we now have a working fix that does not rely on OvPatch.

Read his post below for instructions:

yhc1994 wrote:Here is my solution:
1:Download the mod file 'Reborn_Mods.rar' which in this link https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4z_-cgFrS03SzJhWDNUYWpSQ28 or the attachment below.
2.Extract it and put the folder 'Reborn_Mods' to \Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\game
3.Open gameinfo.gi on \steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\game\dota by Notepad
add 'Game Reborn_Mods '
between
'Game_LowViolence dota_lv'
and
'Game dota'
4.Open DotA2 and enjoy it, remember to select the default HUD

It's working fine, no need -addon command

KNOWN ISSUE: CANNOT DOWNLOAD ANY REPLAYS WITH THIS MOD, BUT THE DOWNLOADED REPLAYS PLAYS FINE.

Update Oct 29, 2015: You need to download OvPatch 3.0 for this fix to work. You can find the newest OvPatch at this link. I do not control the content on that link but that is where the author will always put the newest version of OvPatch. You must patch your game after every Dota2 update. Follow the same steps below and just use OvPatch 3.0 instead of the one that comes with this download.

The day has finally come.
Here is how you can get the HUD to properly resize to match your ultrawide monitor setup:

1. Download the fix from THIS LINK

2. Move the 'mods' folder to the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\dota 2 beta\game\dota_addons

3. Run OvPatch.exe and Patch it with the same settings you see in the picture below. Make sure "Unlock -addon" is checked. You must be using the newest version of OvPatch.

4. Go into your Steam Library, right click 'Dota 2' and select Properties. Next, click "Set launch options..." and put this in the field: -addon mods

5. You are finished. Run your game and enjoy!

I followed these steps but after them I can't get into the game. After I click the play button in steam library, the screen stop at the dota2 symbol loading screen and there is a warning saying something like 'cAPPdictsystem::'.

The new Dota2 update from tonight broke this modification along with other custom addon scripts. When you go in-game, a popup comes up saying that you are using restricted custom addons and must disable them to run the game. I will update this as soon as there is a workaround to enabling addons again. Valve probably saw this thread or it was just a coincidence with the timing. As for the two users above who couldn't get it to work, I think you just installed it wrong. For example, you have to select "Dota 2 Reborn x64" if you are running Windows x64. Select "Dota 2 Reborn" if you run Windows x86.

Nope, it just won't let you play a match until you remove "-addon mods" from the launch options.

I have the same resolution as u do 21:9 3440x1440 it's simple put the folders in the game root folder as instructed just use the updated patch and remember to set ur hud to default don't use any other hud or it will not work and as a side note the game updated twice since the latest razed fix all I've done is repeat the method and all good

Can you get VAC banned for using this?

Are you sure? I read somewhere else that messing with the game's dll files leads to VAC ban.
I really want to use this tweak, but I'm too afraid...

Hi, I had to rename the mods folder to HUDFIX I then moved the folder to the correct destination described by OP.
Then I went to the launch options and set -addon HUDFIX and that worked for me.

Is there a way to make this mod stay permanently? I have to run OvPatch.exe every time since DOTA is updating almost on a daily basis.

Cygus, you don't need to download & run fresh OvPatch with every game update. Only need to when game patch breaks OvPatch's patch. Which is not as often.

If anyone is interested in a severely minimalist HUD, read step #1 in below blog post. Makes HUD skin disappear, enlarging game-world view. It's for those of us with wide aspects & chunky HUD issue. It will look good for 21:9 or PLP (but will not fix LLL, their HUD is just too damn huge).

Blog post uses basically same method as OP, just different images.
Thanks Razed, great info.
