Help with Monitor Selection

Post by NoigeL »

Hello Everyone,
I am a proud new owner (as of last night) of the pre-ordered WSGF Edition v2 Stand.

I am going to be doing a 3 way 27 inch setup and was originally going to select the Asus ROG PG278Q ($799 per monitor) and don't have any problem spending that kind of money, but I also don't want to waste good money on diminishing returns.

As you are all avid gamers and have nVidia surround experience... I am only seeking advice :rockout: .

I want to run nVidia Surround and I want to do this at 3/27 inch monitors running each at 2560x1440 (2K). :triplewide:

My PC Build is as follows:

MB = EVGA Z97 Classified
Memory = Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB
CPU = Intel i7 4790K (devils Canyon) 4 GHZ (not OC'd)
VGA # 1 = EVGA GTX 780 6GB
VGA # 2 = EVGA GTX 780 6GB
VGA # 3 = EVGA GTX 780 6GB
PS = Corsair Ai1200

Games Played:
Shroud of the Avatar = http://www.wsgf.org/dr/shroud-avatar-forsaken-virtues/en
Dialbo = http://www.wsgf.org/dr/diablo-iii/en
Skyrim = http://www.wsgf.org/dr/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/en

Again, if you said... the Asus ROG monitor is far worth the value, cool... I'm all in.

Thanks All, just trying to eliminating wasting good money for diminishing returns, if possible.

Hello Haldi,

Thanks for that link, and no I never saw that before!!!

Even though that makes me even more want to go with that setup I am actually shocked that more people haven't chimed in on what they are using for 7680x1440, and if they are happy or not.

I really do appericate the article thought :twothumb:

And thanks for the warm welcome to WSGF!!!

Hey mate. There's actually a better monitor. Acer makes a 27" that has all the specs of the ROG Swift, but has one big advantage... It's IPS, so it's viewing angles are sooooooooooo much better.

This is the monitor I'd pick for this type of setup if I had the dutch.

I currently run 7680x1600 on a single 7970 (I have run Xfire with 2, although it didn't quite work out too well) on 3xDell 3007wfp-HC's. They are big and I love them.
The only thing I think would be better is either 5x1 Portrait with 23" - 24" monitors, or a big 4K screen, albeit running at something like 3840x1920 (2:1) or 3840x1646 (21:9) for games.

It's a lot of pixels to drive, but it looks like you have the GPU power (and VRAM) to do so.
System Core: | Intel Core i5-2500K + ASUS P8Z68-V + 16GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333 MHz | Win7 x64 | MSI R7970 Lightning 3GB [1105/1400] |
Display: | 3 x Dell Ultrasharp 3007WFP-HC @ 7680x1600 | Dell u3011 |

Hello Suiken,
That's exactly the helpful information I was looking for!!!
Thought it does have a thicker bezel, and a Glossy one to add on top of it... The color will outweigh those factors (IMO).

Thanks for also telling me your setup.

I have to wait for my stand (mid June) so I have a little time to keep doing research, but you just showed me something that changed my current position. :cheers:
