Rotated Eyefinity Support for AMD Radeon™ R9 285

So AMD is finally bringing PLP support to Eyefinity after many years of waiting & begging, according to the slides that were leaked, but only to the 285 series.
Now I'm both excited and mad at the same time because its nice that we are finally getting PLP support but why its only limited to that one lousy card which can barely run solitaire.
My 2x290X are left to eat the dirt with my 20|30|20 PLP setup so I'm pretty mad at the moment.
Btw, those drivers should be released on monday, according to the leaks.

i wonder why only on R9 285 models... they are somewhat newer than the 290X, so the 380X which might release in February will also have this Feature?
Also this slide is something nice: 24 Displays Eyefinity

We gonna send it to outa space!

Re: AMD Omega Driver brings PLP support.
Well, AMD has been using a hardware scaler for eyefinity in GPU's since the 5000 series. The scaler had only been able to slice the rendered image. Rotation was done before hitting the scaler, hence orientation needed to be the same across the board.
I assume this means that they have finally created a new scaler that can slice and the reorient those slices separately, which is awesome.
I'd also assume that this scaler will be part of the new architecture from now on.
EDIT: It doesn't say "Mixed Orientation Eyefintiy" it says "Rotated Eyefinity Support" in which doesn't really say anything. I don't have a 285 to test, but maybe it couldn't do Portrait mode eyefinity until this driver. :P
That would suck, but I'm not holding my breath.

It does say "Enables a mix of portrait and landscape oriented displays" in here:

Oh well, we will see in a few days, release on monday (Hilbert @ Guru) or tuesday (Brent @ [H]ardOCP).
Re: AMD Omega Driver brings PLP support.
These drivers are real exciting to me. Surround support has been completely broken for me since April. I finally got sick of it and decided to crossfire some 290x's.
They will arrive on Wednesday.
These drivers make me very excited that I switched camps.

Notice thats for the firepro card series, which is like nvidia quadro series, allowing you to use multiple card with a mosaic style SLS.
We will see.

Re: AMD Omega Driver brings PLP support.
Finally Eyefinity PLP support. My setup is 19/27/19 & pretty lightweight. One of these cards will be perfect for me. It will make gaming far easier. Assuming it works.
I will have r9 285 Friday. Will come back & report on its support of PLP. Reviews (guru etc) so far have said nothing about PLP support, which is just... stupid. It is a huge new thing, how can they not cover it?

Because literally no one cares about Eyefinity, and even less about PLP
Looking forward to hear more from you!
If it works well this could be the start for PLP in the masses.
btw. Drivers released:

Re: AMD Omega Driver brings PLP support.
I'm working on a post for this. Got the info a bit late, so I'm playing catch-up.
- There is extra hardware on the R9 285 that enables the PLP support. This is why it isn't available on current cards. Kind of like the bridge-less CrossFire of the R9 290 series. Newer cards will have the feature as well.
- The 24 display Eyefinity is only for FirePro, and basically for signage and video walls.
I got some more details I'll get out in my article...

Re: AMD Omega Driver brings PLP support.
I received the Club 3D R9 285 today, the Royal Queen 945MHz stock, purchased to test Eyefinity PLP. I am sad to report that CCC is for me a complete FAIL when it comes to PLP. I have not yet given up, but it sure looks like it won't work.
Without using an Eyefinity display group, yes I can rotate sides in CCC (so can Windows, who cares). But as soon as I attempt to create an Eyefinity display group of it, screens are thrown back into horrible LLL. And I CANNOT rotate anything, only shove screens up & down, & Fit (which obviously fixes nothing if physical screens are in PLP). Just like the old Eyefinity, no PLP support. Or I have yet to find it.
It could be that I am doing something wrong, as I am a PLP guy. I am not as familiar with CCC as I should be. If I am doing something wrong, Eyefinity's PLP setup is NOT straightforward.
Regarding installation, I completely removed old drivers (well mostly: uninstalled exactly as AMD directs on their site, plus used free version of Fusion AMD removal (which is limited). Then installed fresh (latest Dec 8 2014 "Omega" drivers). I did it all right I swear. I have HDMI center, DVI left, VGA right (temporary, shouldn't matter. Have now also tested the right side with DVI, no change).
My head is shot. Will update again. Any ideas guys, or anyone else got Eyefinity PLP working, let me know.
AMD says it works, even Club 3D says it works. Must be me, hope it's me. Supported PLP is all I wanted for Christmas.
BTW I have heard this card allows considerable oc, and performs far better than specs appear. All I really care about is PLP aspect, everything else is icing.
CCC reported version:
Driver Packaging Version 14.501.1003-141120a-178000C
Catalyst Version 14.12 AMD Catalyst Omega Software
etc
On Create Eyefinity Display Group setup page:
"Supported configurations for your display group"
standard, mixed dimensions, mixed alignment. It does NOT say mixed rotation/orientation.
On Club 3D webpage:
The Club 3D AMD Radeon™ R9 285 Graphics card is loaded with the latest from Graphics Core Next Architecture, including mixed screen resolution and orientation for AMD Eyefinity Technology
I have now been through setup enough times to see there is no way to make Eyefinity group PLP work. This card is going back, false advertising. I am pretty annoyed. Was annoyed to begin with for ongoing crap PLP support. Now AMD offers it & it doesn't work.
I have now contacted Club3D support. Details here:
