Unfortunately our host had a RAID array failure on our box. Once the box came back up, we then found that we had significant database corruption in phpBB, our forums.
We are working on a mix of recovery and rebuilding. We have a solid backup of the Drupal database, but have found that we don't have a good backup of the phpBB.
Our staff is actively working to rebuild and fix the corruption.
EDIT:
Unfortunately until this is resolved we have needed to disable any new users from registering with us, although we hope to enable this very soon, our existing members are welcome to login and post as normal. We have re-enabled user registration.
Woops. My intention was to reply to the post and offer my help with this issue (sysadmin specializing in dealing with such issues here). I'm willing to volunteer my time for what I believe to be a good cause, can the relevant person contact me?
Thanks for your very generous offer. I am not one of the relevant team members to handle your request, but you could try PMing skipclarke, Delphium, or CrackerJackMack. I don't know how much, if any, assistance they might need, but I'm sure they would appreciate your offer nonetheless.
aftil, thank you kindly for the offer, we don't have much to go on for the restore, however if you think you have some mad skillz to save our ass then I would be welcome to take you up on your offer of assistance, please feel free to drop by our IRC channel on irc.wsgf.org #wsgf where us admins are in live chat, also please PM me or the other admins.
IRC if you are able to join us, might be best to discuss in a live chat, you can use our Java IRC client (located in top menu) to join us if you don't have something installed already.
To further prevent this fiasco the phpbb3 database is now being backed up along side the existing drupal backups and being uploaded to a different provider. In addition, we've split the mysql instances between two virtual servers with drupal on one, and phpbb3 on the other. These two servers are also replicating each other's to one another for a more 'down VM' situation. This should alleviate any lost posts in case this ever happens again. Thanks to 'Brett' in IRC for looking over the configs to make sure we didn't do anything stupid in terms of replication.
I know you probably have a lot to do but I think that drupal articles that were "cross-posted" into phpBB in the 4 weeks of lost forum stuff now point to incorrect forum posts.
