Six Monitor Eyefinity View Question

Post by Autarch »

I'm sitting here with three monitors. I am gathering information on the difference between three widescreen displays in Eyefinity in a 3x1 landscape mode, and an extra row to form 3x2 on top of them is.

When I went from one monitor to three, it was clear that the side monitors added additional viewable area that a single display wouldn't have. So in certain games I could see more of the surrounding world, racetrack or what have you.

I've seen some video of a 3x2 display configuration but haven't been able to determine something rather important. In such a 3x2 config is the view of the game roughly similar to what one would see on a single display, but across six? Do the extra displays over a single display actually add to the viewable game world, or is it more akin to movie theater versus HDTV?

I've thought for some time now that the fisheye would be reduced in a 3x2 config compared to a 3x1 Eyefinity setup because the aspect ratio would be closer to a normal single display's ratio. I just now began to wonder if the rest of the game would look how it would on a single display, but just over a larger area, and with black bars.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi, essentially it would create a narrower aspect ratio than 3x1, but is slightly wider than a single screen.
Games would mostly display similar to a single screen, but spanned across the many screens with the black bars, just at a higher resolution of cause, the major downside is that the crosshair would be in the middle, between the top and middle display where the bezel is.
Using any form of bezel correction would cause the crosshair to not be viable as it would sit behind the bezel. :(
As such some mebers choose 5x1P instead of 3x2L.

I knew about the crosshair placement. The rest of what you wrote was exactly what I was looking to learn. The images you posted were extremely helpful as well. Thanks for taking the time to write the reply, it really helped me out!

I was running that for a while

you do get to see a little bit more than standard single screen, but not as much as you can see in Eyefinity 3 or Surround View

at the moment there's no much advantage in using all 6 monitors in games, until more games takes advantage of that (if ever  )

so, i decided to swap them out in favour of 3D :D
