I just built a new system and I really don't think I should be BELOW 30 FPS in games. I've been playing BF3 and Borderlands 2. It seems fine until action happens then it will drop below 30 FPS. This is with settings maxed @ 5040x1050 resolution.
Here is my setup.
Asus Maximus IV Extreme Mobo
Intel 2700k 3.5Ghz processor (3.9 Turbo baby! lol)
8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X series ram
240GB Corsair Force Series GT SSD
750W Corsair HX Modular Power Supply
XFX Radeon 6950
3 22' Acer monitors for eyefinity
Win 7 Ultimate
I guess my question is, is the graphics card holding me up? If so, are 2 Radeon 6950's in xfire better than 1 top of the line card like a GTX 680? Or are there some settings or OC I should do? I'm not a huge fan of OC so anyway...thanks!
Beast system but still not over 30 FPS in eyefinity?
It most likely is your
It most likely is your graphics card although it'll completely depend on graphics settings, if your trying to run things on high or max then yes, a 6950 is not enough for 5040x1050. To answer your other question, a pair of 6950's is probably about on par with a GTX 680 if you compare on pure numbers, but if you factor in ATI drivers and crossfire performance reliability, your better off with a single GTX 680, it'll give you less problems.

In Borderlands 2 its the Physx Settings! Set Physics to Minimum. that helps. And install 12.9 driver +CAP1-12.9
We gonna send it to outa space!

So I got the GTX670, and Nvidia surround is terrible. Unless you have the EXACT same 3 monitors, it will only let you run a resolution of like 4200x900 or something crappy. I tried all the fixes I could find on this forum but to no avail. The games don't look terrible, but looking at the desktop makes me want to scratch my eyes out. So I sold THAT and got a 7970 lol. It's working good, but I could notice in most games the Nvidia was "smoother". Is there something I'm missing? I've tried maxing the AMD overdrive settings and all it does it crash. Is there some tweaking I can do to increase performance but still retain quality?
Make sure anti-aliasing is
Make sure anti-aliasing is turned off, and I seem to remember BF3 being a FPS hog with Ambient Occlusion, try setting that to off, and see if things improve. Also, using Ultra in BF3 puts 4xMSAA on in game, so running at High will increase FPS a lot.
