Bf3 stuttering only in surround
K, first of all, i can play bf3 on ultra at 1920x1080 on a single screen and its silky smooth at 60fps with vsync
But when i go to 6080x1080 triple screen, i use low settings and the fps is still locked at 60. but it becomes a stuttering mess with severe cpu spiking.
I have tried all the fixes, ht off, renderahead, triple buffereing, running as a higher prority etc, even a number of clean os reinstalls but they make no difference.
I have well over a hundred games installed and bf3 is the only one that stutters.
I know there are others posting the same issue when using a single screen. but i dont have any problems with a single screen, its only when i change to triple screen that it stutters.
i'm using all the latest drivers and bios updates.
Does anyone have bf3 running in nvidia surround without stutter?
My rig
intel 980x extreme
evga 4 way classified mobo
3 x 3gb580 watercooled
12 gigs ocz gold ram
creative fatal1ty sound
win 7 64 bit

does this also happen with
does this also happen with only 2 GTX580 running in Surround instead of 3 ?
IF you have some time, can you do me a favour and record Frametimes with Fraps (and upload frametimes.csv to mediafire or such) ? Would like to see difference from Singlescreen to Eyefinity.
Greetings Haldi

No problems here using single
No problems here using single monitor at ultra BF3 setting.
Triple screen though: I dont get stuttering but im only able to use the medium BF3 setting, high is ok but it has the odd lag spikes here and there, FPS rate doesnt "look" any different compared between low and medium.
core i7 960 3.2ghz
6gb ram
2x 3GB 580 GTX's, 5760x1080 60hz with newest drivers
windows 7 64bit
coolermaster HAF X
no overclocking

K, the latest nvidia beta
K, the latest nvidia beta drivers have helped with the stuttering when playing bf3 with nvidia surround. but it hasnt eliminated it yet. cpu and gpu usage is about 50% max which still points towards drivers or bf3 coding.
I'll try setting my 3rd 580 to physix and just use the other 2 for sli to see if there is any difference between 2 way and 3 way in game

I think you'll find its the HBAO effects. I can run at 6040x1080 everything on Ultra at 100-115FPS pretty constantly with only a very occassional drop to 85FPS in Operation Guillotine.
It's very smooth!
Runs CPU @ 47% and all 4 GPUs at 90-95%.
The big killer is the HBAO and deferred AA.
I use medium post AA and turn off deferred AA with SSAO instead of HBAO and no motion blur.(dont like the effect of motion blur)
System config
i7 990X @5Ghz
4way SLI GTX580-UD @ 950/2200
Gigabyte X58A-UD9
24GB Corsair Dominator 2000Mhz Ram 9-10-9-27 1T
Win 7 64bit w/ Nvidia 290.53
3 x 24" Acer H243H LCD
All water cooled with Aquacomputer waterblocks and UD9 EK waterblock with 4xD5 pumps in 2 loops.
Build log here for the doubters> The Borg Cube Build Log

i have tried running with hbao off, and everything turned to low. no aa etc and it is locked at 60fps or around 80 to 90 with vsync off. And my system isnt too much different to yours. but it still stutters when running in nvidia surround. They said it would have the same support for multi monitor gaming as bad company 2. but all the hud, icon and framerate issues would seem to indicate that they didnt really test it before launch.
hopefully something will change in the future, but it took 19 months for them to fix bad company 2, even though they admited they have fixes for many months before they released the patch.
I'll be changing my mobo, cpu and ram soon so may help

I had the same problem with my 3x580s only in BF3 in Surround mode. It lags and stutters no matter of ingame setting and drivers.
3way sli is problematic in this game as it was in bc2.
The only solution is to run with the 2x580s and sell the third one. Don't expect EA to fix this.

I am running a 2600k, 8GB and GTX480 SLI (@825mhz) and I get the same thing.
I can run single screen maxed out in Ultra and the game is silky smooth.
When I go to surround, it does not matter how low I make the settings, the game runs very poorly.
I was living with it for the most part until I went back to BC2 for a bit and remembered how smooth that game is in surround.
My opinion is that the last patch to the game messed it up - I don't think it's your system.

tested using just 2 way sli
tested using just 2 way sli instead of 3 and still not smooth. I've given up and this point and dont expect it to be fixed.
i am now using a 3960 cpu on a rampage 4 extreme mobo and the only difference in bf3 is that my gpu/cpu load has dropped from about 50 % usage to around 40%. So it still looks like the issue is with the coding of bf3 and/ or drivers

Perhaps the huge 'balancing'
Perhaps the huge 'balancing' patch coming 'soon' will have some other tweaks in it too? That said, DICE don't exactly have a stellar reputation for supporting widescreen or triplewide. ;)
