SSD Drive suggestion on new build.

Post by bonoscot »

Guys i am looking into an SSD drive....I am looking into running Windows 7 64bt on it....

What should i be aware of before i buy?

What kind of SSD drive? Is there a certain speed etc?

I am currently building a brand new rig from scratch so looking into this.

I have Coolermaster HAF 932 Case,
1000wt Thermaltake Toughpower Modular PSU,
2x ATI 6970 cards.

Ps.I will hopefully be getting soon....i7 2600,so looking for a great gaming Motherboard that will run My SSD fine at full speed and also run Dual/Tri Cards(so great gaming Motherboard will be getting bought as well soon)

thanks for suggestions

What size you looking at?

Crucial M4 and Samsung 830 drives seem to be fast and reliable. The sandforce 22XX driver (Vertex 3 etc) seem to be fast, but track record says not so reliable.

Any motherboard with Intel Sata 3 controller (which any board that fits an i7 2600 does) will give you full speed, if you use ACHI in the BIOS/ UEFI.

Hope to of helped!

i'd reccomend 128gb! still

i'd reccomend 128gb! still nearly payeable. Enuf size for all stuff.

Crucial M4 seems to be nice. OCZ Vertex 2 had some problems, but was a faulty production RMA and problem done! Vertex 3 seems to work fine!

Sata 6GB SSD's aren't that different in Speed anymore. SF2280 controler or Marvel isn't that much of a difference. Just that Marvel works faster with small files, and SF with big archives.
We gonna send it to outa space!
