Need recommendations for a good 27" monitor, mid to upper price range.

Going to be building a gaming rig this winter and will have 3 monitors for surround gaming. I am hoping to get an idea from folks here what a good one is in the $300-500 range. I don't need speakers or any other add ons with it, just the best quality monitor I can afford.

Another question- I've read different opinions on what's better- 1920x1080 (16:9) or 1920x1200 (16:10). I am going to be using these for gaming, web surfing, watching movies, and office tasks (word processing)- in that order of importance. Is either one of these resolutions preferable?
