Oh licensing... Clearly it is better to have a unnecessary connection/point of increased resistance than have reasonable licensing...

Translation: HDMI is a spec

Post by BHawthorne »

Translation: HDMI is a spec group that demands tribute be paid for the right to use their port configuration. On the other hand DP has no such restrictions placed upon it by VESA. DisplayPort is a competing specification by VESA. HDMI spec group does not want HDMI and DP to play nice with each other and will do anything they can to disrupt interoperability. HDMI would rather attack DP than compliment it.

I know a lot of us use mini-dp -> single-link dvi -> hdmi so this does hit home as being anti-consumer to me personally.

If they want us to bow down

Post by tet5uo »

If they want us to bow down and py hommage to their HDMI gods, they could have designed a connector that isn't using stupid friction to stay in place. Such a bad design , those stupid cables.

TBH, for a long time the cable interface wasn't the only thing stupid about it. Though after several years and lots of revisions they fixed their design.

That being said HDMI Org is officially Stupid. With a capital "S".
