Witcher 2 - letter box

Post by EvilEngineer »

Well, the game recognizes the wide screen resolutions however it seems to lock down the aspect ratio to 16:9 or so as I'm getting a very annoying letter box resolution during game play.

Time to start tweaking files to see what can be changed.

edit: Anyone know of a unzipping tool that supports a .dzip extension? I've tried 7zip, winzip, winrar... all of them fail to look into the package file.

edit2: go figure... even the program named "dzip" can't read the .dzip file extension.

hmmm hex edit time I guess.

It's a shame that this game does not have native Support for Eyefinity.

On the other hand... It won't even start in Fullscreen Mode here... have to run it in Window...

Whaaat no EyeFinity in this day and age? The first game had at least some support if I remember correctly.

Why oh why did I preorder...

The first game had jacked up eyefinity support. Now this one seems to have none at all?
I would of played the first one on one monitor and then preordered this but now that this doesnt even support it I won't ever buy it.

It does list the resolutions. It even runs the Eyefinity resolutions. It's just, that you get black borders on both left and right screen. 16:9 seems max for now.

Too bad. It is a really good game. I loved the first game, but this is just awesome! Graphics are gorgeous, gameplay is excellent, dialogs and story telling are better than what I've seen during the past few years in all the games (except 1 or 2 maybe).

We should get some kind of community outreach for this, is there some kind of template stating the benefits of EyeFinity/Nvidia Surround and how mainstream it is now, etc etc?

Wow, major let down. I was so looking forward to a native surround experience. This is actually a shocker, coming from a PC only dev like CDproject Red.

Tsk tsk.

Someone's already started a thread at GoG.com (The developer's site I beleive): http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/eyefinity_superwidescreen_support

Posted, but i wont my breath for this official support, maybe we'll see a hex edit or memory hack solution doing the job.

The thread over at GOG.com (CD Projekt's Online Store) is filling. Let's hope best.

GoG.com is Good old gamers, its a reseller like Steam. I think the official witcher forums are supposed to be at http://www.en.thewitcher.com/forum/ but they've been down yesterday and today (not sure if they were up before then? anyone know?)

With DA2 being such a disappointment this will probably be RPG of the year, so they really need to get their act together for a PC-only game.

We should get our man Dopefish on this, he's the man!

As far as "not holding your breath" with the devs... yeah.... they "WHERE" a PC only dev but they've obviously seen the market in the consoles and jumped on the bandwagon.

That's why I stated the above, I only wish I knew my way around game code :(

Please please please someone help with the aspect ratio lock so we can thoroughly enjoy this game in Surround/Eyefinity.

For the moment, the GOG forum is the best way. As soon as the official forum gets back up (There are some announcements on the Community Blog part of thewitcher.com) we can start a thread there and link back and forth on the two threads.

Does anyone find it funny, that background image for the "forums are down" message is that of Geralt lookin' pissed off? I kind of find it coincidental.

Oddly enough, I started the game in my native res 5916x1200 (bez corrected) and it full screen on the center screen and the left and right screen have about 1" of game screen visible on the sides of the center monitor and what's weird is its bezel corrected. Everything lines up, or appears to, between the center and sides. I guess this is the 16:9 bleeding over to the side monitors. Just need to change the FOV :

hurrar!!

such a shame it isnt a multi monitor game. no excuses for a pc only developer. its things like multimonitor gaming that give PC the edge over the console's of today.

ive managed to put a couple of hours into the game and oh my word what a stunning game. im very much enjoying it, finding it pretty hard as ive havent played the original.

the game will not launch when my computer is in eyefinity mode. i have to physically unplug my to surround screens and play on the centre. it then runs great.

we shall need some serious GPU power to run this in multi monitor though. im currently running the game with the bioshock profile to get a bit of xfire performance. although you get a bit of flickering in some areas of the game, the huge FPS boost makes it well worth it!

cant wait to try this on all 3 monitors though.

good luck hayden!

Arggh what a shame, just when you think a dev is going in the right direction they take two steps backwards!
