2D Surround Problem

Post by dylskee »

Hello all,

I decided to give surround gaming a try and I can't seem to get it to work for me. The driver keeps crashing when I try to "Span displays with surround", all the screens flicker and keeps crashing. I wanted to play some COD black ops tonight in surround.

I'm running two GTX 285s in SLI and the driver I'm using is 260.99, three 22" widescreen LCDs all running the same resolution and refresh rate. Can someone give me some help on this? Thanks in advance! :cheers

Try reverting back to the 258 or 256 drivers. I had a 50/50 chance when I had my GTX 275s with surround.

Thanks for the reply. I tried a couple different older drivers and all I get is "Input not supported and my other two monitors go black.

I've got a Dell 2209WA, Chimei and an Acer. Three different kinds but all running the same res and refresh. From what I've read so far different brands is not a problem for 2D surround but for 3D surround you need to be matched, correct?

In theory yes, but ive seen some ppl here at WSGF with issues when running three different monitors + NV Surround, even if with the same res and refresh rate, can you check the model numbers of the Chimei and Acer ?

I was hoping to do this without buying two more monitors but looks like I'm going to have to huh?
The model numbers are:
Chimei A220Z1-H01
Acer X223W

The biggest issue is that the sync polarities are the same for all three monitors, while it's only a +ve or -ve option, most manufacturers don't advertise the sync polarities, and therefore you're flying in the dark with it. It's really important but nVidia just kind of mention it in passing. I would suggest that with three different monitors, one of them isn't the same sync polarity as the other two. Which is the problem. :(

Qft, from nvidia 3D surround system requirements page :

All displays must have a common resolution, refresh rate, and sync polarity

Thanks for the info! Anyway to find out what the polarity is for each monitor? I'm going to assume my 2209WA has a different polarity seeing how it is a TN panel. The Chemei is an Acer rebranded I'm sure.

I dunno, unfortunately. There used to be a utility in Knoppix (the bootable linux distro) that would tell you all sorts of info about your monitor that Windows just doesn't think to report. If you have an EDID reader program, that might drop some hints. Or Powerstrip, or sommat.

Ok, can I get some recommendations on a decent good priced monitor you guys use for multi monitor gaming? I have to buy new monitors for this because I can't get this working with what I have now so I'm buying 3 new monitors. I will probably buy 2 for now then buy the third in a couple of weeks. Dell has discontinued the 2209WA and I found a couple on ebay but they're going for $300.00 + each!

Sell your panels, buy U2311s if you want IPS. They're always on sale, they're IPS like your 2209WAs (the W model is TN, not the WA. I have three of them :D ).

 sync polarity :doh I'm in trouble? I've got one KDS LCD & 2x NEC LCD's. Great....now I'm in trouble. Good thing I didn't spend $1,700+ on a new build. Looks like I'll still be gaming with ultramon for a while.
