263.09 Drivers + nView

Post by fuzioninfinity »

Before anyone gets too worked up, no - Nvidia didn't officially add Windows 7 nView support, however, using a modded INF i made, as the ones posted on the internet were not working, I was to install nView with the 263.09 drivers.

I was especially excited because I remember nView had some sort of desktop division tools (which I made no use of) back in the good old XP days, and I thought I may have finally freed myself of the Matrox paperweight...

I was able to get pretty much every single function of nView to work, without issue, the nView toolbar, title bar buttons, transparency, always on top functions, multiple desktop backgrounds... all of them except the grid lines desktop division function. :( The grid lines would show up as I dragged windows around, but they refused to snap to the grid, no matter what I tried.

So, well, I guess pointless post is pointless now, but I still felt a burning desire to share my discoveries with you all. Also, the 263.09 drivers are still having the same issues as the 260.99 drivers where the screen occasionally locks up when enabling surround and a reboot is required, though it seems to be less frequent - if anyone was curious. There. Pointless post now has a point.

Well I wonder, I don't know too much about nView, but is it as simple as right-clicking and hitting "snap to grid" or something similar? This is how ATI's hydragrid works.

As far as I know, it did what the matrox software basically did, there aren't any specific options in any context menus pertaining to the grid besides the option seen in my screenshot.

Do you know if it only supports 3 monitors, or will work with dual?

Not sure if I understand your question.. Nview failed to work completely in regards to desktop division. I doubt that'll change with the number of screens used (it didn't work with surround disabled or enabled), but it will probably work on XP still. Nview isn't a surround/eyefinity-like technology though, it was geared towards productivity, not gaming.

And if you're asking something else... nVidia Surround only works with three monitors. It won't do it with two (unlike EyeFinity, IIRC)
