How well does Eyefinity support mixed monitors?

Post by peppergomez »

I have a 30" monitor and was thinking of getting two 20" 1600x1200 monitors to use in portrait mode alongside my 30", which is 2560x1600. Basically, to get more peripheral vision in gaming, but without incurring the cost of buying 2 more 30" monitors. Is anybody doing this with Eyefinity, and if so, how well does it work?

Out of curiosity, what's the total horizontal viewing size? I know it would be 70" with the two 20" monitors in landscape mode. Thanks.

In general, a lot of games start spazzing at after 8192 pixels while in DirectX9. The physical size really doesn't matter.

But currently (at least the 5000 series) you cannot eyefinity with different resolutions. The card will send identical resolutions and refresh rates to each display. They also must be the same orientation. You best bet is to use SoftTH 2.1. I'm unsure about the 6000 series though.

6000 series looks to be more forgiving than the 5000 series, but no one has had a chance to test that yet.
