Where do you buy boxed PC games offline? (US)
Where do you buy boxed PC games offline? (US)
It is getting harder and harder to find retail stores. Especially for older titles. As someone who doesn't necessarily know what I am looking for this sucks.
I use Best Buy, Wal Mart, and Gamestop. Best Buy seems to have the most games but not many older titles. Wal Mart is like Best Buy with a smaller selection. Gamestop is a crap shoot depending on the store but the chance of anything older is slim.
I hit this place in Manassas, Virginia.

They had six or seven PC games. Sims, something tycoon, popcap, etc. and one jewel case of Grim Fandago which I didn't want but that could be someone's holy grail I guess.
What are my other options? Are there any? I was thinking about pawn shops.

Uh I bought Starcraft 2 at Future Shop which is basically Canada's Best Buy.
I cannot remember buying a Boxed PC game prior to that, maybe World of Warcraft back in 05.

I go to best buy or gamestop usually. But if I want cheap games that came out maybe a year or 2 ago, i go to 5 and below, they have $5 PC games.

Whenever I'm at Target I always check their clearance shelf (usually tucked away in a non-obvious location). There's no way to predict what will be there, but I have picked up a number of games at huge discounts. IIRC I got Supreme Commander and Jade Empire for <$10 when both games were retailing above $30 everywhere else, even online. Wolverine for ~$6 and GRAW2 for $5. The only other place I buy games is Fry's, but only on the occasions that the price is right. Vast majority of my current purchasing is Amazon, Steam, and GOG.
In recent years I've noticed that prices in-store lag faaaaaar behind current online prices (online being much cheaper, natch). If retailers don't bother trying to compete they are just going to lose more business as more people shop online.

Anywhere i can, as the ones i buy are always the same price, arcoss the board. Though if it's a boxed game, i usually pre-order from Fuckershop. Used to use EB Games, but they no longer sell PC games. Turds.

Other than the ones already mentioned, I also have a Micro Center nearby, and, when all else fails, I take a trip about 15 miles away to a Fry's Electronics. Fry's does have the largest selection of boxed games of any place around. Whether or not they have older titles, I can't tell. But, you can always check online for anything in stock.
Micro Center does, however, have a LOT of "jewel case" titles for anywhere from $2 and up.
Other than these, online options would be Good Old Games for the older titles. http://www.gog.com/en/frontpage/

I got Starcraft 2 at gamestop at the midnight launch...
Before that my last boxed purchase would be age of conan which I think I actually got at Target over 2 years ago.
Before that... was... *scratches head*

Found Mercenaries 2 and Jedi Knight 2 at another Five Below. Digging through the haphazard boxes can get tedious.

I usually buy from amazon, but to answer the question legitimately my local Best Buy, Target and Wal-Mart all have robust PC sections. My Best Buy has a larger PC section than PS3 section, though that counts casual games.
Re: Where do you buy boxed PC games offline? (US)
Let's see... there's a Target 'round here but I don't buy any games from there unless I happen to notice a title for dirt cheap. But my main retailer for games is GameStop and Best Buy, depending on what it is, and who is cheaper. Then again, neither are cheap when it comes to new games.
I haven't snagged a single game since Bad Company 2... which has been my primary focus since release. The unfortunate part is that while there are some good deals that you can snag in-store, more often than not you end up with ridiculous DRM that I try to avoid as much as possible.

Bump.
I have been searching goodwill stores where you can find some real gems. One today had the original Civilization with everything for 3 dollars.
