Post by Oddball »

Looking to buy my first real PC Racing game after FPSing for about 5 years. What do you guys suggest?

Well personally, if you want more of an arcade like game, go with Blur, but if you more of a simulation go with Dirt 2.

IMHO Dirt 2 is still pretty arcadey. So Dirt 2. Blur just sounds annoying (though admittedly i haven't played it so take my opinion on blur with a grain of salt)

They're completely different in terms of gameplay and style. Both were fun for me, so you can't really go wrong with either one. Dirt 2 looks better and focuses on driving while the driving in Blur is somewhat dumbed down to make room for all the weapon play. I think Dirt 2 is the best looking racing game I've played.

Dirt 2 or perhaps GRiD. Blur isn't that great. Fun for a little time. Maybe you can extend that time by playing online with some friends, but my guess is not by much. Dirt 2 and GRiD are imo far better race titles.

From an FPS player perspective, Dirt2 is also a better choice because of the various cameras available. I love the bonnet view much more than any exterior view, just like I prefer first-person to third-person shooters, if you get my meaning. The interior view is also a must-try (water effects, breakable glass, silly gadgets), and all cameras can also be modded (position, FOV...).
Blur on the other hand has probably nothing more than the mandatory arcade game chase view.

That's a good point. The interior view of Dirt 2 is quite amazing (especially in triple head). They put a lot of detail into it. Blur only has the 3rd person chase view or a first person view where you don't see any of the car.

Get DIRT 2, it is really tons of fun and not a real 100% simulation..
For some high speed racing: get GRID.

And If you want a real fun arcady racing game, get Burnout Paradise! Can't be beat!

I endorse this recommendation. Also check out Trackmania Nations Forever, it's free so you lose nothing if it isn't your cup of tea.
