Eyefinity monitor selection help

Post by MrD1sturbed »

Ok so I decided to take the plunge into the eyefinity world. I currently have 2x Dell 2709w's which I absolutely love. From a cost to performance perspective would I be better off just springing for another 2709w (approx $800) or selling my 2x 2709's and picking up 3 IPS or PVA monitors with Displayport (probably the U2410's)? From a quick eBay search I should be able to get about $700 a piece for my 2709's, so I would really only be putting like $100 out of pocket for the U2410's. Additionally I need to get a Tri-Stand for these so I will need to factor that into my out of pocket costs (roughly $300 from what I can tell). On the GFX card front i'll sell my 2x GTX280's for about $300 and pick up a 5870 for some where in the $350-400 range.

So the question is which would be the better choice:

Option A: Buy additional 2709w ($800), Stand ($300), and GFX card ($350), recouping approx $300 from sale of current cards for a total OOP = $1150 (plus tax/shipping)

Option B: Sell both 2709w's for $700/each (+$1400), sell GFX cards (+$300), buy 3x U2410 (-$1500), buy stand (-$300), buy GFX card (-$350) for a total OOP = $450 (plus tax/shipping)

Obviously the cost difference clearly shows Option B as the better choice, but which would you choose? Or recommend an Option C.
