Next summer I will be moving with my wife to another state, and into a bigger place. We will be getting several things in this place (to name a few; new desk, bookshelf, TV, Bed....) and I just wanted to know if the following setup will work the way I want it too. We don't plan on getting Satellite or Cable, but will use the Blu-Ray and Internet to watch what we want on the 37" we will get.

Now here it is.

Will I be able to have my 5970 (which I will get sometime in the near future) run Eyefinity for my 3xu2410's and use my 4890 to run my 37" for the things I just mentioned (Movies, Internet TV). I will run a long HDMI cable to reach my TV (as it will be on the other side of the room) and my 5.1 system will be on the TV as well.

Yes you would be able to do that as long as your using Windows 7, it won't work on XP or vista. The 4890 might be going to waste if its just used to run movies though. Also it uses additional power causes heat takes up room etc. An alternative would be to sell it make some money and buy a smaller cheaper low profile card that is capable of running HD movies but uses less power and produces less heat. You could even get a Nvidia card that could also be used to run Cuda and Physxx applications and would make a more useful addition to your PC.

Just a word of caution if you DO decide to go the mixed ATI/NVIDIA route...

I guess older drivers would work? Haven't explored this much, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Sounds like a plan, and yes I do have Win 7, but why would that be relevant? The NVidia route sounds good though.

Because windows 7 allows the installation of more than 1 video driver to the system. XP does aswell but u cant get Eyefinity with XP

I've heard that it's not good to use hdmi cable longer than 3m. so be careful with that.
I would suggest you to build a new (less powerful) media pc for your TV if you can afford it.

I have a lower PC, but it is going to stay when I move... it's complicated. Don't think my wife would want another PC.

Hmmm I wasn't aware of that, is there a specific version I need? (I guess it doesn't matter, I have pro and that should be enough for anything).

Any problems any of you can think of that I might run into?

I really cant say for sure because i have no first hand experience with long hdmi cable.
I believe they (BJC) know what they are talking about and if so, you should be ok with up to 30 feet cable.
