Widescreen is natively Hor+.
Surround requires editing Config.xml found in
(XP) C:Documents and SettingsLocal SettingsApplication DataAspyrStar Wars The Force Unleashed
(Win7) C:Documents and SettingsBouhApplication DataLocalAspyrStar Wars The Force Unleashed

Anyone know how to kill the framerate cap ? 30 fps max in Surround is guaranteed to make your eyes bleed :(

Disable vsync for the FPS cap. I waqs stuck at 30 but with vsync off i still get 50fps or so averagte, and tearing is minimal.

What's the method for achieving th?

EDIT: oops, wrong game i was thinkign of. I have not found a way to kill the cap. But teh console vcersion are apperently capped at 30fps, too.

Forcing AA doesn't appear to do anything.

ooo pretty in TH, i liked this game on wii so I may like it on PC.

I know some games have not just a vsync cap but a engine cap, like UT3 I think had one @ 60fps and I shut it off for benchmarking by finding the engine cap limit and changing it. Not sure if you can do it the same for this game.

That sure looks nice. Judging by the comments regarding gameplay I will probably grab this when it hits bargain-bin prices. Of course there is no PC demo for me to try that might encourage a purchase sooner. :(

Sucks about the fps cap, and why would they choose 30? I assume this is a custom Lucasarts engine?

If I am not mistaken the fps cap is not 30, thats why its higher with it off. But Vsync will only give you 60fps if your average fps is like 60+, if not then the next lowest sync-able number is 30fps. From there if your computer cant handle 30fps average it goes to 20fps.

Turning down some options for a high frame rate may yield enough extra fps to show this theory to be true.

I learned this information with a google search a long time ago "30fps vsync" or something like that, as its not the first game at all that I have had this problem.

Update: Hey!

There is also a 1.1 patch out now for the game that has some performance improvements and a few small bug fixes.

Naw, it's hard-capped at 30. I doubt a aptch woudl remove that cap. I dont; recall ANY game having a 30fps cap removed from patching/ Liek a couple Silent Hill games.. bastards.

Thanks for patch info. I was going to bitch about the 400+mb size, but ig uess it's not too bad when the game is 23gb.

:::Correction: 28gb, patched. Yikes.

23GB wow thats some serious HDD space even for me who has 6 1TB hdd's lol.

(was so tempted to take advantage of the $140 2TB Samsung deal on blackfriday)

I'd cringe if I was a SSD owner with only like 80GB space.

The demo of Force Unleashed on consoles was in no way indicative of the full game. The demo was awesome. The same level from the full game is also awesome. The later levels get progressively poorer. At least IMO. I'll probably pick it up when it's going for a tenner or sommat.

OMG who are the stupid developpers who thought using uncompressed data files was a good idea

The two-DVD install, 28 GB used, framerate cap etc. all indicate lazy coding anyway. To design a good-looking game with lots of destructible elements is fine, but a good game i.e nice gameplay requires a little more than that. The implementation of Havok in their custom engine was so half-assed that even the awfully low max fps is not enough to avoid terrible performance with frequent framerate drops.

Yeah it seems the game is capped at 30fps, regardless of vsync.

My guess would be that it's a limit imposed by how they integrated the various physics/materials simulation middleware with the rendering engine (e.g. they may only resolve interactions at 30Hz). Well, either that or it simply just is a result of their lazy port.

---

Aspyr support is completely useless as always. There's a bug with music on 5.1 speaker setups, where music only plays in one speaker, despite sound effects being appropriately positional and playing in all 5 speakers. They gave me the old "we can't duplicate, it must be your system" that they pulled with Dark Sector widescreen support requests. I posted a snarky video to YouTube demonstrating the issue, forwarded it to every contact email available for the company, and suddenly they said they could now duplicate the problem and that they'd forward it to the dev team (though I suspect this was only to shut me up) - but even then they said it probably wouldn't be fixed because it wasn't a game crippling flaw

I'm kind of upset with myself that I actually bought this game at MSRP (and thus supported this crappy company), but I'm too much of a sucker for anything Star Wars.

Aspyr really is terrible. I was hoping when they got the contract for this game they would have put a little more effort in, since it is a relatively high profile game, but no... seems like they didn't.

Of course judging by my forums no one bought the dang thing, so perhaps it wasn't that high profile after all.

Heh same here. Among the very few people I've seen discussing the game, I think I'm the only person that actually paid for it...

We should also mention for anyone still interested that in addition to the ridiculous install size and framerate cap, it also lacks any graphical settings apart from a singular "high detail" on/off setting, and there's no mouse support for the menus (though to be fair, this is a game you should play with a gamepad anyway).

Hmm...looks like Aspyr isn't doing too well: http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/12/09/large-layoffs-reported-at-aspyr-media/

Sucks for people to lose their jobs, but I certainly don't have any sympathy for the company. I still condemn them for essentially lying to customers about the travesty that is Dark Sector.

There must be an interesting story behind this. They are one of the most prolific publishers I've seen over the past several years, so much so that I distinctly remember thinking "How many games are they going to release this month?" once or twice.

Well they spam us with inferior products meant to make small amounts of profit... I assume at some point those profits did not cover the bills.
