World of Warcraft (WoW) - UI text scaling

Post by one11 »

I'm getting some UI rescale. I've checked mod and tested it like crazy and it's seems that stretching the display to 3840x1024 has an impact on those:

- XP awards (look on the pic) too big

- Player Arrow in minimap too small
- Chat bubbles too big
- "High Threat" / "Attacking you" / "Changing Target" (instances) too big

somebody knows how to fix those ? they are the last irritants left in the game, would love to get rid of them :)

Cheers
N

Bunch of us have this problem.. same with the damage and healing being too big and the arrow on the minimap being too small.

No fixes that we know of as of yet.

same thing happens when you enable health bars over enemies. they're huge when they get near.

you can disable the incame scrolling combat text and get the SCT addon which allows you to adjust the size of the tex that is scrolled with the addon...for the minimap thing, ive just had to get use to it...

SCT, scrolling combat text for the text,
for the map, i dunno.
There was a addon that replaced that health bar problem. You can find it in the DR here on the site.

have the same problems

MikScrillingBattleText replaces the text of the damage I make with a nice adjustable font. (SCT just replaced the font, but it was still huge)
XP-Text is still huge

for the minimap problem, the only workarounds I found was to use rotating minimap, which I find annoying, or to scale the whole minimap bigger, which is possible with Chinchilla-mod.

I use an addon called Simple Minimap from http://www.Cursegaming.com
I also tryied Basic Minimap which also worked both of these allowed me to scale my map and reposition it anywhere i like onthe screen.

So my Arrow is now a goodly size again.

I use a number of addons. I also change the viewport -

/script WorldFrame:ClearAllPoints(); WorldFrame:SetPoint("TOPLEFT", 1000, 0); WorldFrame:SetPoint("BOTTOMRIGHT",-1000, 0);WorldFrame:SetUserPlaced(true);

that makes the displayed area smaller, about 2" overlap on each side monitor. With the rest of the black area on each side I have my chats, maps, etc. I use Chinchilla for the minimap and Cartographer3 for the world map, Parrot for combat text, Dominos for my action bars, Quartz timer bar, and a number of others.

That there is how most non-FPSes should be with 3 monitors. Giving us a wider camera angle helps little, but more UI on the screen is a huge boon!

I had a config wipe recently, because my PC bluescreened out due to bad drivers, but the side effect of this was, that my arrow on the normal map is now scaled properly (not the minimap, the normal map).
It may also have been caused by an update to the mapster addon I use, not sure, but if you have problems with the size of the arrow on your normal map, wiping your wtf configs may help

at least I can see my arrow on the normal map now, the only workaround for the minimap arrow is still resizing chinchilla.

Well, sorry for bumping an old thread but i'd like to point out that on the PTR currently (patch 3.1.0, hopefully coming out tomorrow :D), the problem with the minimap arrow seems to me fixed. Running at 5040x1050 the arrow is now back to it's normal size. I was also experiencing an issue were the player arrow was actually off center, making it difficult to navigate to nodes and such on the minimap, this also was fixed for me.

Issues with TH2G and WoW

WoW 3.1
My solutions:

1) UI placement. Minimap sizing. These can be completely solved with the Fluid Frames addon.

2) Tooltip placement. Most of the tooltips can be moved around with the Mousetip addon.

3) Floating combat text too large and pixelated. I turned off floating combat text and instead use the MSBT addon.

Things I can't solve:

A) Chat bubbles are HUGE. I've heard this is not modifiable.

B) Experience recieved upon mob kill is HUGE.

C) Minimap player icon is fine in 3.1. Map player icon is tiny.

If anyone has solutions to these, I would really appreciate your help.

I've noticed that even addons like Fountain can't change the size of the combat text or chat bubbles, it can only change the font. I wonder if combat text, chat bubbles and the experience-recieved are all set by Blizzard so the end user can't mess with them.

Hi, The XP text and chat bubbles are apparently in a region where the addon developers cannot acces. So until Blizzard makes it available to the developers, it will stay this way.

Just search the Wow forums and you will find some info. :)

C) I use chinchilla for minimap and mapster for normal map and on both the player position arrow icon is normal sized

I am experiencing another problem though, crashes to desktop with "could not allocate memory" errors, usually after or while running around in Dalaran.
either blizzards memory management skills suck badly or 512mb vram just isn't enough for 4320x900 4AA 8AF
